A recap of Outer Banks season 4, part 1
Outer Banks season 4 part 1 started before the time jump in the season 3 finale, with the Pogues discovering the El Dorado gold and returning to their home on Kildare Island. After cashing in the gold, they are now $1.1 million richer, just enough to buy some land and start creating Poguelandia 2.0.
However, after overbidding in the land auction, they were almost out of funds, so they started the Kildare County Surf Shop. But their new business didn't last long after a storm destroyed it, and then came Wes Genrette, the man who would supposedly help with their current financial troubles.
He offered the Pogues a way out—a treasure hunt for the Blackbeard amulet that would help get rid of the 300-year-long curse plaguing his family. They would get 50k for it with a 5k upfront payment, which they took. Meanwhile, they were on the brink of losing their newly acquired land if they couldn't pay up because of the change in zoning.
While they managed to retrieve the amulet, JJ and Kie had a scuffle with a shady man named Lightner. When they went to Wes to give him the amulet, the Sheriff told them that the man had already died. They kept the news about finding the amulet hidden when Sheriff Shoupe interrogated them, and they also told Wes' son-in-law, Chandler Groff, that they didn't find the amulet.
At this time, the Pogues started suspecting that something bigger was happening. Lightner was the only one who knew that they had the amulet; he was planning another treasure hunt for something called the Blue Crown. The Pogues knew about his plan and discovered that the amulet they had could lead them to the Blue Crown.
However, their little spying on Lightner put one of their own in danger as the man abducted Cleo at the dock. He brought her to the Pogue's house, hoping she would tell him where the amulet was. Meanwhile, the other Pogues congregated at the beach for the swell day, which turned tense when the Kooks arrived.
By the end of Outer Banks season 4 episode 4, Lightner had taken the amulet and killed Cleo's former boss, Captain Terrance.
What happened in Outer Banks season 4, part 1 finale?
The Pogues are again the subject of suspicion as Sheriff Shoupe continues to investigate Wes' death. He grilled JJ about their whereabouts when the man died and showed him the video where JJ was threatening the Kooks during the swell day.
Meanwhile, the other Pogues try to get rid of Terrance's dead body in the ocean. With Terrance dead, Cleo is eager to avenge his death by continuing with the treasure hunt. However, when Pope and Sarah searched the crypt for clues, they got locked inside. Making matters worse, Lightner came before them and got the clue they were searching for.
By the Outer Banks season 4 part 1 finale, JJ got a massive reveal when his wanted father, Luke, revealed that they are unrelated. JJ's real parents are Wes' daughter, Larissa Genrette, and Chandler Groff, making him Wes Genrette's heir.
