Who was Natalee Holloway?

Natalee Ann Holloway was born in Clinton, Mississippi, on October 21, 1986, to parents David Edward Holloway and Elizabeth Ann Holloway. Natalee's parents got a divorce in 1993, after which she and her brother, Matthew, were raised by their mother.

In 2000, Elizabeth remarried the businessman from Alabama, George Twitty, and moved to Mountain Brook. Thereafter, Natalee Holloway graduated from Mountain Brook High School with a straight As in her honors on May 24, 2005.

Holloway was an active student. She was on the school dance team and took Spanish classes. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, the American Field Service, and Natural Helpers.

Holloway intended to attend the University of Alabama on a full scholarship. Natalee's mother, Elizabeth, spoke to Newsmax’s Greta Van Susteren to share,

“I think that she would be a doctor by now. I believe that.”

After her graduation, Holloway and 124 of her fellow Mountain Brook High School graduates left on May 26, 2005, for a five-day vacation to Aruba. The group had been to the local nightclub and bar, Carlos 'n Charlie's, in Oranjestad, where Holloway had met the 17-year-old Dutch national, Joran van der Sloot.

According to NBC News, Joran had reportedly taken Natalee to the California Lighthouse area near the northwest tip of Arashi Beach island to watch sharks. In Joran's confession he made in 2023, he admitted to killing Holloway on the beach and dumping her body in the ocean when she refused his sexual advances.

Joran reportedly kicked her in the face and then bludgeoned her to death using a cinder block, per NBC News.
