What to expect from Penelope:

The trailer gives fans further information about what can be expected from the series. It shows the 16-year-old teenager explaining to her mother that she feels as if nature has been calling out to her. Her journey starts when she spots a wolf in the woods, which is seemingly the catalyst that kickstarts her transformative journey.

Determined to become a part of something bigger, Penelope decides to leave her hometown and is seen traveling with a rucksack to various locations. On the way, she makes several friends and is initially seen camping at the Cascade National Park.

Penelope undergoes comprehensive struggles. She celebrates after starting her first fire in the forest and even runs into a bear near her tent. Despite these difficulties, she learns to live in harmony with nature, enjoys fishing, and begins to perceive trees as "social beings." The character explains that she simply wants to fill ‘the massive void’ that she feels and eventually seems to find her footing.

At its crux, Penelope appears to be a series about the disdain for modern society and the need to make like-minded friends. The trailer promises a heartwarming ride that takes the protagonist on a range of new adventures as she is determined to get away from the hustle and bustle of her former life.

Apart from Megan Stott, who has been previously seen in projects such as Yes Day and Little Fires Everywhere, a range of familiar faces are part of Penelope. This includes Austin Abrams, seen in Euphoria and Dash & Lily, Krisha Fairchild, and Rhenzy Feliz. While Fairchild has previously worked in Channel Zero and Krishna, Rhenzy Feliz features in The Penguin and Encanto.

The series has been directed by Duplass and Mel Eslyn, who also wrote the script for the show. Penelope can be expected to include some riveting commentary about the modern world and the need for human beings to connect with nature.

Penelope will be available on Netflix across the USA starting September 24, 2024.
