Game show, The Hollywood Squares, host Peter Marshall, 98, unexpectedly passed away from kidney failure on August 15, 2024. While speaking to The Associated Press, his publicist Harlan Boll shared that he was at his California-based residence at the time of death.

Peter gained recognition over the years for presenting the NBC game show, The Hollywood Squares, and was featured in a few films. His net worth stood at $10 million, as per CelebrityNetWorth.

Peter Marshall's family also confirmed his death through his official Facebook page and added a link to his official website. Furthermore, well-known faces from the entertainment industry shared tribute posts on different social media platforms.

Musician Michael Feinstein added a video to his Facebook post, saying that he was a talented individual and continued:

"I would wager to say that there wasn't a single person who ever met Peter, who didn't come away saying "what a kind man." Thanks for your kindness Peter and may angels be with you in heaven. Much love to you, Laurie."

Actor Paul Lynde also shared a clip through Facebook where he once had a conversation with Peter Marshall. He said that he was hurt after the death of Peter and referred to the video by saying:

"This was the last time Peter came on camera publicly. It is memory I will cherish for the rest of my life. I am grateful I got to visit with him 6 days ago and share my gratitude. My heart and condolences go out to his beautiful gorgeous wife Laurie… What a gem and beautiful soul she is."

Peter spent most of his childhood under the guidance of his grandmother in Huntington, West Virginia. His father Ralph was a pharmacist, and his mother Jeanne LaCock was a costume designer. Peter's family members also included a sister named Letitia who later pursued a career as a model.

Also known as Ralph Pierre LaCock, he became famous over the years for his work on different game shows and other projects on television. All of these additionally contributed to his earnings, making him the owner of various assets.

Notably, Peter Marshall started doing different jobs and joined the Paramount Theater as an usher when he was 14. He later came to Bob Chester's band as a singer after completing his graduation. He was also employed at the NBC Radio at one point.

As per the official website, before working for NBC and Paramount Theater, he served in the US Army for a brief period. He started his career in the comedy world during the 50s and was helped by a comedian named Tommy Noonan.

The duo were introduced by his sister Joanne Dru's ex-husband John Ireland, and they performed a comedy act called Noonan & Marshall at different local spots. Peter even performed with Bob Chester Band when he was 15 and earned $50 per week.

Peter Marshall slowly began to prioritize his solo career and appeared in some films during the 60s such as Ensign Pulver, The Cavern, and Swingin' Along. He portrayed a radio show host in the musical comedy-drama film, Annie, which made around $57 million at the box office. It featured Aileen Quinn playing the lead and led to a sequel alongside several adaptations.

He soon began hosting the game show The Hollywood Squares in 1966 and it featured multiple celebrities as participants. This version concluded in 1980 and the hosts kept on changing over the years. A revival is scheduled to premiere next year and it would be reportedly hosted by Nate Burleson.

Marshall's career did not end on television and appeared on shows like Fantasy and 3rd Degree! He also became a popular face for his work on Broadway and had plays like Skyscraper in his credits. He was the author of a book titled Backstage With The Original Hollywood Square.

Peter Marshall was a recipient of certain accolades, including the annual Bill Cullen Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2006. He was also cast as a narrator for the documentary Wait for Your Laugh, which focused on the life of late actress and singer Rose Marie.

Marshall's survivors include his wife Laurie alongside children Suzanne, Jaime, and David.
