Presumed Innocent episode 6 was released on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The show follows Rusty Sabich, a Chicago lawyer on trial for murder, and the episode revolves around the trial proceedings. The Apple Original miniseries stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Rusty.

The newly released episode 6 depicts how the trial is proceeding, which impacts the Sabich family. Barbara and Rusty start to grow distant due to personal issues. On the other hand, the prosecution attorneys Tommy Molto and Nico Della Guardia differ about the best way to handle the case.

However, the most shocking twist comes at the end of the episode, involving Rusty's lawyer Raymond Horgan. In the middle of interrogating a witness, Raymond suddenly stops speaking and falls to the ground. This results in chaos as Rusty rushes to give him CPR. In all likelihood, Raymond suffered from cardiac arrest due to the stress he was under while handling Rusty's case.

It remains to be seen whether Horgan succumbs to the heart attack or manages to survive. However, he will surely feel weak after the medical scare and may be advised not to fight the case. In this situation, Rusty will be in serious trouble.

Presumed Innocent episode 6 takes the audience deeper into Rusty Sabich's (Jake Gyllenhaal) murder trial, where he has been accused of murdering Carolyn Polhemus (Renate Reinsve). The prosecution and defence both interrogate witnesses smartly, though Tommy Molto (Peter Sarsgaard) can be seen acting a little rash with his questions at certain points.

At the end of the episode, Carolyn's estranged son Michael is brought in as a witness. He angrily says that he thinks Rusty committed the murder. Rusty's lawyer Raymond Horgan (Bill Camp) gets up to question Michael and present his defense. However, he is unable to talk and collapses in a sweat. Rusty, Raymond's wife Lorraine (Elizabeth Marvel), and several paramedics run to the scene.

Raymond seems to have suffered from a heart attack in the courtroom. Previous episodes of Presumed Innocent foreshadowed this, since Raymond was seen under immense stress. He had nightmares and was very disturbed about what would happen if Rusty got convicted. The pressure of winning the case may have led to the mishap.

What happens if Raymond Horgan does not return to fight Rusty's case in Presumed Innocent?

There are two scenarios where Raymond does not return to fight Rusty's case: one, where he is advised to rest and not strain himself and two, where he succumbs to his heart attack and passes away. This is a possibility since Raymond was not responding to CPR or the electric defibrillators at the end of Presumed Innocent episode 6. Both these situations don't put Rusty in a good spot when it comes to his trial.

If Raymond is advised to take rest, he might recuse himself from the case and Mya (Gabby Beans) will become the primary defence attorney on the case. While it is true that Mya is familiar with the case, she has less experience than Raymond, and the sudden switch might seem jarring to the jury. All of this might not favour Rusty's situation at all.

On the other hand, if Raymond passes away, Mya would still take charge of the case. However, Rusty might reach a breaking point having lost not just his lawyer, but also a good friend. It might sour the connection between Lorraine Horgan and Barbara Sabich (Ruth Negga), leaving Rusty's wife without her support system too.
