While fans are desperately waiting for the final two episodes of their favorite legal thriller series, the news of season renewal has left fans excited. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga, it is the most-viewed drama series on the streaming platform.

However, there is a twist in the case, Presumed Innocent season 2 will not continue the story of the first installment, but follow a completely different case. This means that the first television adaptation of Scott Turow's novel will sum up with the eighth episode on July 26, 2024.

The announcement post on Instagram reads:

"New season. New case. Presumed Innocent has been renewed for season 2."

Directed by David E. Kelley, the series premiered on Apple TV+ on June 12, 2024.

Presumed Innocent season 2 will feature a new case

Apple TV's drama Presumed Innocent will be back with season 2, featuring a brand new case. The courtroom drama, surrounding a murder investigation, has kept viewers hooked since 1990 when the first movie adaptation starring Harrison Ford was released.

The Harrison Ford-led film and the currently running Apple TV+ series - both are based on a book of the same name, penned by American lawyer and author named Scott Fredrick Turow. It was his first novel which was universally praised for its gripping narrative and unpredictable twists.

The interesting thing is that Scott Turow had already written the sequel to this novel titled Innocent, which was released in 2010. Yet, the makers of the series have decided not to continue the story of Rusty Sabich, and unfold a new case in Presumed Innocent season 2.

The narrative of Presumed Innocent takes place in a fictional place called Kindle County, where most of Scott Turow's novels are set. The story follows Rusty Sabich (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) who is a prosecutor charged with the murder of his colleague, Carolyn Polhemus.

Carolyn was hit over her head while she was tied during what appeared to be s*xual bondage. Her case is assigned to Rusty by district attorney Raymond Horgan, who is in the middle of his re-election campaign and wants to solve the case as soon as possible. But the conflict is that Rusty used to have an extramarital affair with Carolyn, and so did Horgan, and both of them want to hide this truth.

Horgan loses the election and Rusty is charged with the murder. His relationship with his wife Barbara (Ruth Negga), which was already damaged by his infidelity, gets severely affected. He hires his frequent opponent as his defense lawyer and after a twisty and tiring trial, the case is dismissed.
