Reasonable Doubt season 2 premiered with its first 2 episodes on Hulu on August 22, 2024. While episode 1 shows Jax (Emayatzy Corinealdi) handing over Shanelle’s case to Corey (Morris Chestnut), hoping he is able to swing the case in Shanelle’s favor, episode 2 complicates matters by bringing in hitherto unknown facts concerning Shanelle’s actions.

The official synopsis of Reasonable Doubt season 2 episode 2, titled Say Hello, reads:

“Jax brings in a new lawyer to help with Shanelle’s case; however, when they disagree on tactics, Jax goes behind his back, a move that backfires in an unexpected way.”

The episode ends on a mysterious note, as Corey finds out that Shanelle is not as impoverished as she said she was and that she actually got a substantial amount of money from the account of her dead husband, whom she killed allegedly out of self-defense. Thus, Shanelle may not be as innocent as it was thought initially.

Reasonable Doubt season 2 episode 2 throws some doubts on Shanelle

Episode 1 of season 2 of this legal drama series opens with a shot of Shanelle, one of Jax’s closest friends, killing her allegedly abusive husband. Her husband was a star athlete, and his murder causes much ruckus in the media. Shanelle claims that she had to kill her spouse out of self-defense.

Shanelle calls Jax to defend her in court, and Jax promptly complies. However, Reasonable Doubt season 2 is as much about the personal life of its protagonist as it is about her professional life.

Episodes 1 and 2 show that Jax’s marriage with Lewis is suffering, and they are seeing a therapist to sustain their marriage. Due to her past traumas and current private hardships, Jax finds herself unable to bestow her undivided attention on her friend’s case.

Thus, she hands over the case to Corey. They have different ways of working, and they frequently clash over that. However, Corey does come up with startling revelations that Jax was unaware of. These revelations suggest that Shanelle may not be telling the whole truth.

For instance, as episode 2 progresses, it is found out that Shanelle waited for over two hours before calling the police after her husband died. Similarly, Corey finds out that she is not as poor as previously claimed in court; in fact, she has moved a large sum of money from her deceased husband’s account.

All these facts muddy the matter regarding Shanelle’s claim of self-defense. The episode ends with Corey informing Jax of all these over the phone. As the credits roll after this in Reasonable Doubt season 2 episode 2, the viewers cannot help but wonder, “Did Shanelle kill JT for the money?”

Reasonable Doubt season 2 episode 2: What about Jax and Lewis’ marriage?

Season 2 of the series significantly focuses on the private life of Jax. She is an obsessive worker whose professional commitment often gets in the way of her having meaningful interactions with people in her personal life.

Her marriage with Lewis has been suffering for a while. Reasonable Doubt season 2 episode 2 even shows how Lewis has been seeing someone else, though he and Jax are not officially separated. However, they are also working to save their marriage by visiting a therapist.

It is in order to devote more time to their marriage that Jax gives up Shanelle’s case and hands it over to Corey. This does improve matters, as episode 2 shows her and Lewis going out on a date and finally having a good time in a long while. The episode shows their relationship starting to heal after a rough patch.
