S.W.A.T. season 8 continues the action show, which is back on CBS after almost getting canceled. It started in 2017 and is about Sergeant Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson, who is the dedicated leader of the LAPD's Special Weapons and Tactics team. Inspired by a 1970s show, it has become a fan favorite for its intense action and deep emotional depth.
The seventh season was supposed to be the last but based on public demand, it was picked up for an eighth and final season. The newest season began on October 18, 2024, and will continue up to 22 episodes.
S.W.A.T. season 8 features Shemar Moore as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson, a Sergeant born and raised in Los Angeles, who leads a highly skilled tactical unit that acts as the city’s ultimate line of defense.
Hondo faces the challenge of balancing his loyalty to his hometown community and his commitment to his fellow officers. Alongside his duties, he navigates life as a new parent with his wife, Nichelle.
Joining him on the 20-Squad are David "Deacon" Kay, a seasoned officer and devoted family man; Victor Tan, now single and eager to take on more responsibility; and Zoe Powell, a confident newcomer striving to earn her place on the team.
Commander Robert Hicks oversees the operations of the entire Metro S.W.A.T. team. Under Hondo’s leadership, this diverse squad works to protect the city and save lives amidst a growing set of challenges.
Shemar Moore and others star in S.W.A.T. season 8
1) Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr.
In this series, Shemar Moore plays the fearless leader of the 20-DAVID S.W.A.T. team again. As Hondo continues to protect the city while also dealing with personal problems, his leadership skills are put to the test.
Moore is best known for his strong roles in Criminal Minds and The Young and the Restless.
2) Jay Harrington as David "Deacon" Kay
Jay Harrington returns as Deacon, Hondo’s right-hand man and the second-in-command of the team. Although Deacon considered retirement in season 7, he remains with the team. Harrington has also appeared in shows like Better Off Ted and Summerland.
3) David Lim as Victor Tan
David Lim plays Victor Tan, a dedicated officer with quick decision-making skills. His role becomes more crucial as the team faces dangerous missions. Lim has also starred in Quantico and Hollywood Heights.
4) Patrick St. Esprit as Robert Hicks
Patrick St. Esprit portrays Robert Hicks, the commander who oversees the S.W.A.T. operations. Hicks continues to lead the team, although he questions some of Hondo’s decisions. St. Esprit is recognized for his roles in Narcos and NCIS: Los Angeles.

5) Anna Enger Ritch as Zoe Powell
Anna Enger Ritch returns as Zoe Powell, a strong and reliable member of Hondo’s team. Her character evolves further this season, becoming more resilient after surviving a life-threatening situation.
Ritch has appeared in The Haunting of Hill House and Chicago Med.
6) Rochelle Aytes as Nichelle Carmichael
Rochelle Aytes plays Nichelle Carmichael, Hondo’s wife. Though her role is reduced this season due to her involvement in another show, Aytes is still a significant part of Hondo’s life. Aytes has been featured in Hawaii Five-0 and Mistresses.
7) Brigitte Kali Canales as Alexis Cabrera
Alexis Cabrera, a reliable S.W.A.T. team member played by Brigitte Kali Canales, is back. Canales has been in Fear the Walking Dead and Quantum Leap before.
8) Annie Ilonzeh as Devin Gamble
Annie Ilonzeh joins the cast as Devin Gamble, a new recruit in the S.W.A.T. team. Coming from a family with a criminal history, her character adds a fresh layer to the storyline. Ilonzeh is known for her roles in Arrow and Person of Interest.
9) Niko Pepaj as Miguel Alfaro
Niko Pepaj, promoted to a series regular, plays Miguel Alfaro. His character is now a permanent member of the 20-DAVID squad. Pepaj has also appeared in Awkward and Daytime Divas.
This season, directed by Billy Gierhart, follows Hondo and his team as they deal with problems from the last season as well as new ones.
In season 8, Hondo faces both personal and professional problems and has to complete missions with a lot at stake.
