SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 3 is out, bringing more of the Bravo Team's fun, chaotic, and action-packed dynamic while back on shore duty on the TV screen.
After their supposedly boring assignment in Sweden turned sour, plunging the elite military members into combat against international terrorists that bombed a mall and killed many civilians, the team is back on US soil. But while they were out of Sweden, everything that happened in the foreign country remained with them.
The team thought that their heroic action in Sweden, as seen in the SEAL Team Season 7 premiere, would put them back in the game, but Command is still not happy with them for going off base. The previous episode ended with Bravo's future still hanging on a balance.
In SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 3, the team takes their second assignment since they were put on shore duty, but as Lieutenant Lisa Davis (played by Toni Trucks) says, it's "the new era of warfare." It will be a get-in-and-get-out assignment where the team will have to work like, as the episode title says, "Ships in the Night."

Bravo got a new assignment in SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 3
With the previous episode ending on a cliffhanger as for the Bravo Team's future, SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 3 was much more hopeful for the group of elite military members. They were called for a new assignment, but during the briefing, they discovered that it could be another boring and action-less mission like in Sweden before the b*mbing, or it could be an impossible assignment.
As Lieutenant Davis said during the briefing, it's a new era of warfare where they need to join forces with the DEA to go after China-backed drug traffickers. Master Chief Jason Hayes (played by David Boreanaz), aka Bravo 1, was confused about the assignment, questioning why a tier-1 operator like Bravo would be assigned to a DEA operation. Meanwhile, the rest of the team is happy to get back in action until they realize that their new mission needs them to be as covert as possible.
Bravo is now based in the American consulate in Bangkok, Thailand, where they learnt about the specifics of their new assignment. The gist is that they need to gather intel about the Sai Lou drug trafficking operation, which involves putting trackers in the vessel and the barrels it's transporting. But the boat in question is docked for refueling at the Heron Reef, a contested island in the South China Sea, which gets them in a tricky situation.
If the Chinese, who are claiming the island as their own, see them there, there will be a "Chinese-sized fallout." Any hint of them being in the supposedly Chinese-owned territory will be seen as an "act of war," hence, they have to embrace the mission like ships in the night. Doing the operation undetected, with zero footprint and no shots fired, was almost impossible. And around the end of Episode 3, it looked like Bravo 1 and two others were about to be found out by those patrolling the area until their new team member saved the night.

There's a new Bravo 6 on the team
A new mission isn't the only thing new for the Bravo Team in SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 3 as they also have a permanent addition to their lineup. While Drew Franklin (played by Beau Knapp) joined Bravo in their Swedish mission in the previous episode, he wasn't a regular team member then. But before they were shipped off to Southeast Asia for their new assignment, the loner Drew is made an official Bravo SEAL Team member, much to his dislike.
That said, the new episode didn't reveal much about his backstory except that he has a controversial family who has their hands in politics and business. Also, his father is a Senator, which he tried to leverage against Backburn because he doesn't want to be part of any team.
Meanwhile, his new team members are still wary about not knowing anything about the guy, which leads to Sonny (played by AJ Buckley) and Omar (played by Raddi Barsoumian) making a bet about which of them can make Drew open up. But, neither of them has managed to crack their new team member's defenses.
In the second half of SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 3, when Bravo is deciding on Drew's call sign just before they head out on their mission, Sonny suggests that he be called "Bravo 6." It was a huge choice for Sonny because the previous Bravo 6 was his best friend, Clay Spenser (played by Max Thieriot), who died in the previous season of the Paramount+ show and whose death still affects the rest of the team, including Hayes.
Bravo 3's assault on Colonel Decker is still a secret
Sonny Quinn, aka Bravo 6, assaulted Colonel Decker in SEAL Team Season 6 after he knew that Decker was the major reason for their Mali mission that went wrong. When he learned about the Colonel not changing the comms channel as frequently as he should, causing the disaster, Sonny tracked him down at a parking lot somewhere and punched him.
Sonny getting in massive trouble for his previous action has been teased since the beginning of the SEAL Team Season 7. Lisa, his "low-key" girlfriend, learned about the investigation and informed him about the Army's CID looking into Decker's assault case. Decker is now the General, and if Sonny is exposed as the guy who assaulted him, it could be the end of his career.
With his secret looming over his head, something that only Lisa is aware of, any call from Command's higher up is a source of tension that his secret will finally be revealed. One of those calls happened in SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 3, just before the Bravo SEAL Team is sent on their new mission.
During the meeting for their assignment, Blackburn told Sonny that he should report to personnel later because some visitors were looking for him. Once there, Lieutenant Plax told him:
"My colleagues and I understand you've been keeping something hidden from us."
Sonny, for his part, appeared like he didn't know what they were talking about. And it turns out that he had no idea what they wanted to speak to him about because it wasn't about him punching Decker. The officers want him to help the R&D develop the med kit he designed after Mali.
However, while SEAL Team Season 7 Episode 3 ended with Sonny's secret remaining a secret, Lisa also told him later in the episode that the Decker investigation is still active.
