Were Jason and Sonny fighting in SEAL Team season 7, episode 5?
Bravo Team's new mission in SEAL Team season 7, episode 5, is a low-impact surveillance operation following Jun Yilin, the owner of the precursor factory that they blew up in episode 4. The new op brings the team to George Town, a city in Penang Island, Malaysia, to set up surveillance on Yilin, who's vacationing on the island.
With the forecasted tropical storm incoming and the lack of AC in their observation post, everyone on the team appears more on edge and uneasy. While it's common for the team to make fun of each other, their barbs start getting closer to home. At one point during their stakeout mission, Jason and Sonny got into each other's faces and traded accusations.
The tension between Master Chief Jason Hayes and Sonny, aka Bravo 3, starts when they realize that instead of Jun, Han Min, his company's CFO, is the one vacationing in the house. She's with her husband and son at the house when a high-ranking member of the Mexican drug cartel, Rasposo, visits and starts looking for Jun. But because she won't give up Jun's location or she doesn't truly know where he is, the syndicate begins torturing the husband and wife.
Sonny wants to intervene before Rasposo and his men discover that Han Min's son is also inside the house. The child is still in his bedroom and doesn't know what is happening to his parents. However, Jason tells them to stand down, relaying what Davis told him about their mission, which is to "stay and observe."
Sonny and Omar don't think that Han Min deserves to get tortured, no matter her connection to Jun's drug operation. However, Jason won't budge, saying that keeping the surveillance is the "safest way to get intel," and that way, he can protect his men and the mission. When Omar questions Jason's decision, the Bravo team leader says, "Orders are orders. End of discussion."
When the events in the house start to get worse, Sonny tells Jason that it's time, but Jason still resists. At one point, he says that it's his team and it will be his call, and their verbal sparring starts. Sonny begins accusing him of being soft and offering his trident because he's not sure he wants to lead Bravo anymore. He gets on Jason's face, saying:
"If you've no interest in being a frogman or in leading this team, you need to stand the f**k aside."
Jason takes offense at what Sonny tells him, explaining forcefully that he offered his trident so "you a**holes" can get on the "f**king field." He also reminds Sonny that he has saved his life many times.
At one point, Ray and Omar joined the verbal sparring. Ray chastises Sonny for disrespecting their team leader, to which Sonny points out that Ray has no leg to stand on because he has his other foot outside the door. He is referring to Ray's forthcoming retirement. Ray then answers that he can stay home instead of coaching the guys when he's out of the team, but Omar takes offense.
Omar accuses Ray of not doing any real value coaching. Meanwhile, Drew is silent but looks ready to bolt with the team arguing with each other. However, at the end of SEAL Team season 7, episode 5, they decide to finally intervene, killing Rasposo and his men. They take Han Min and her family to safety.
What did Drew reveal during the fight with the Bravo Team?
Throughout the verbal fighting with the four Bravo Team members, Drew was sitting and brewing while keeping up with the surveillance. While the Bravo Team gets in each other's throats, Drew has had enough.
He stands and reveals something true about himself for the first time. He says that what Sonny theorized about him before is true—he went to the Navy searching for a family that is better than his real one. And he said that he found it in his previous team, but everyone in his new family was taken from him.
With his revelation, the rest of the team, except Jason, who already knows about Drew's background, put two and two together. Drew was part of Team Echo, the group that was sent on an ambush in Jalalabad, which was mentioned in season 1 of Seal Team. Everyone on the team died that night on their mission in J-Bad; at least, that was what everyone thought.
Drew reveals in SEAL Team season 7 episode 5 that he was at home during the team's mission. Echo was one man down during their operation, the only saving grace for Drew's life.
What happened to Jason at the end of SEAL Team season 7, episode 5?
At the near end of SEAL Team season 7, episode 5, Jason has a bizarre moment while talking with Ray. When Ray remembered how he did a clean shot that killed the syndicate member, despite his initial hesitation, Jason envisions his hands covered in blood.
Although Ray notices Jason checking out, Jason's phone alerts him before Ray can say something about it. In the final moments of the TV show's latest episode, Jason shocks the team with his unexpected announcement. He tells them that they have to run without him because he will be returning home for his son's surgery.
While the surgery may be real, it's become evident in the episode's final scene that Hayes is struggling with something much deeper.
