Season 2 of Shahmaran premiered on Netflix on August 8, 2024, continuing the saga of Sahsu and Maran with six new episodes. This fast-paced season delves into discoveries, war, prophecies, and revenge.

The season reveals that Davut, Sahsu's grandfather, is an incarnation of Camsap, and his death in this season marks the return of Camsap. However, the cycle gets disturbed by Lilith's intervention, because of which Maran becomes the next Camsap in the legend of Shahmaran.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the official synopsis of the show reads:

"When Şahsu goes to Adana, she seizes on the chance to confront her estranged grandfather, but she soon finds herself in the midst of a legend."

The season starts with multiple deaths after the rise of Lilith. Maran loses his family members, and Sahsu loses her grandpa. However, in the later episodes, Maran’s sister and Sahsu’s grandfather return. Meanwhile, Lilith tries to catch up with the present times, eating, clubbing, and waiting for her sister to rise as she wages a war against humans, killing several of them.

Throughout the second season, Sahsu tries to open all three mystical doors to summon Shāhmārān. She hopes to live a normal life alongside Maran once their purpose is fulfilled. However, they both fail in the end, as they are now the prophecy and the myth. Lilith, through her chaos, helps Sahsu unravel the mysteries, as Sahsu first forgives Cihan, next kills Diba, and lastly, we see the death of Davut.

Shahmaran season 2 ending explained

Lilith kills Camsap

After the death of Davut in the second last episode of season 2, Camsap and Shahmaran unite for a short while. After Shahmaran tells Camsap how his immortality wasn’t a curse and takes it away so the two lovers can grow old together as mortals, Lilith arrives and stabs Camsap, stopping the cycle forever.

Meanwhile, Maran loses his mark as his purpose is served and he is no longer a basilisk. He fights Cihan, who comes to kill him and complete his long-awaited revenge. After a bloodied, one-sided fight, when Cihan is about to deliver his final blow, Abra's mind controls Cihan and stops him.

Later, Cihan and Abra kill themselves with the same blade that was used to strike down Shahmaran before. They do not want to be a part of the sister revenge saga. Seeing their deaths, Lilith seems astounded.

Meanwhile, Shahmaran meets Cavges after the death of Campsap, and they talk about the cycle that's ended with Camsap now dead. However, Shahmaran reveals that there is a new way. Everything has to go back to restart the cycle, which would require a greater sacrifice from Sahsu.

She tells how she chose Sahsu because she has a greater capacity for love. When Sahsu returns as herself, she goes back to the house. After Maran arrives beaten and bruised, she tells him they should spend a normal morning like human beings, keeping aside the other worries as promised.

However, the worst is yet to come, and Maran is not aware of it, although he senses something wrong when he looks at Sahsu.

Betrayals

Soon, Sahsu dies and returns underground after sinking and vanishing in the bathtub, but Maran does not give up on his love. He goes to look for answers and also for Sahsu, who is now Shahmaran. Subsequently, Maran finds Sashu, but they do not get time to unite as Mesut Gurmak and his men arrive. They kill Shahraman for the cure, while Maran watches her die.

Gurmak needed the cure to heal himself from a disease he was suffering from, which could have been because of the factory intoxicants. As per the legend, the tail of the mystical snake queen can heal him. Therefore, he goes and kills her to save himself and fulfill his selfish desires. While we do not know if he healed on the show, as per the legends, he should.

Is Maran the new Camsap?

Yes, the story hints at Maran becoming the new Camsap, although he didn’t betray Shahmaran intentionally. After the goons kill Mirac, they track down Maran, who is also searching for his beloved. While Maran doesn’t lead Gurmak directly to her, indirectly, he is to blame as he is the sole reason they discovered Shahraman’s kingdom and her hideout, after which they killed her.

Throughout the season, there were multiple instances when it seemed like Sahsu might have to kill Maran to open the second door. Lilith also tries to brainwash Maran and turn him on her side, but she fails. Despite Maran's mistakes, Sahsu stayed by his side, and their love seemed unbreakable, which made Shahmaran choose Sahsu as she believed that history could repeat itself with the two lovers playing their part to recreate it.

Thus, the saga continues with Lilith back in the well, Shahmaran dead, and Maran as the new Camsap.

Was it really a betrayal?

What seems confusing after the ending is that Shahmaran seemed to anticipate that Maran would come searching for her after her death. She didn’t warn him not to come, even though this would lead to her death by exposing herself to the goons. Maran was heartbroken and wanted to unite with his beloved, but now he has to deal with the guilt of exposing her location, which led to her death.

To continue the saga, were Sahsu and Maran used as bait? Was it so important to restore the cycle by sacrificing Maran and Sahsu, who just wanted to live a normal life? With Maran being the new Camsap, what’s next? Also, did Gurmak live?

Let us hope for a season three that can answer all the above questions.
