With Shrinking season 2 coming to an end, things are looking better for Jimmy. The season began with Jimmy trying to get his patient out of prison, who pushed her fiance off a cliff, signifying that his unique therapy method of overindulging in his patients backfired.
Throughout this season, Jimmy changed his method and made progress in his personal life. His relationship with his friends, daughter, and colleagues improved as he worked on getting his life together. However, by the end, he realized that he had been ignoring that he hadn't completely healed from the loss of his wife.
In Shrinking season 2 finale, Jimmy makes further progress by having a heartfelt conversation with Alice and sitting down with Louis Winston at the train station, the guy responsible for his wife's car accident. The episode also showcased Paul getting emotional at the Thanksgiving dinner at Gaby's, giving a spirited speech about having caring people around him.

Despite that, he showed up at her party with her mom, another person with whom Gaby shares a complicated relationship. Jimmy met with Louis in Shrinking season 2 finale
Shrinking season 2 finale begins with Paul telling Jimmy that he will never be able to forgive himself for not being a responsible father if he doesn't pour his heart out in front of her. Jimmy struggled to follow through as Alice was still not talking to him, spending most of her time at Liz's or with her friend Summer.
Meanwhile, Jimmy helped Summer, who was caught shoplifting. He later summoned the courage to talk to Alice, who had already forgiven him by that point, and also thanked him for helping Summer. Her grief was that he helps everyone in need but doesn't want to help Louis. Despite being forgiven, Jimmy apologized to Alice for being a mess after Tia's passing and not taking care of her as he should have.
Later, on the day of Thanksgiving, Louis' co-worker informed him that he shouldn't come to a party because people wouldn't be comfortable around him. This deeply hurt Louis and reignited his guilt and trauma. Sitting at a train station, he texted Alice that he was not doing good and was in need of a friend. But Alice's and everyone's phones were kept in a basket at Gaby's party.
When it seemed like Louis might try to jump in front of a train, Jimmy showed up. He sat on a bench with Louis, not saying much, just playing a game of figuring out the backstories of strangers. Jimmy potentially saved Louis' life by showing up on time.
Paul gave a heartfelt speech in Shrinking season 2 finale
Harrison Ford's Paul is known for being a tough, broody, and brilliant man who prefers solitude over parties. In the episode, he was delighted that he wouldn't have to visit his daughter on Thanksgiving and even refused to attend Gaby's party.
His partner, Julie, practically kidnapped him and took him to Gaby's party, where the entire group was present. At the party, all the guests took turns to say what they were thankful for in their lives. Paul went last but gave a speech that made people emotional. He shared his concerns about his escalating Parkinson's disease but also acknowledged his luck in having wonderful people around him who would make it easier to get through.
Liz found a new purpose, and Gaby reconciled with Derek and her mother
Shrinking season 2 finale also focused on Liz and Gaby. Liz helped Brian and Charlie find a suitable nanny, which she was naturally good at. Later, the husbands visited her house and asked if she would be willing to care for their child two days a week. She immediately confronted Derek for setting this up. However, Derek made her realize that nurturing is her gift and can be the purpose she has been looking for lately.
Gaby struggled to reconcile with Derek and her mother, both of whom were unhappy about her not letting them in her life. Gaby called Derek to invite him to her party, but he refused, saying that she needed to figure out what she had to figure out, and till then, they shouldn't be together.
However, Derek not only surprised her by coming to the Thanksgiving dinner but also brought her mother along with him. Though Gaby and Derek are not back together yet, their relationship can be a key storyline in Shrinking season 3.
