Shrinking season 2 is an Apple TV+ original series created by Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein, and Jason Segel, with the latter starring in the leading role of Jimmy Laird. Jimmy is an employee at the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center, who works under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Rhoades.

After losing his wife to a drunk driving accident, Jimmy resorts to increasingly maverick methods in his therapy practice and gets far more involved in his patients' lives as a result, for better or worse. This contrasts him with Paul's more by-the-book and strictly professional demeanor, and the consequences of Jimmy's actions drive much of the plot of the series.

Shrinking season 2 has a selection of licensed music that accompanies key moments of the series. This has been a trend since the very beginning of the show, with season one notably featuring Billy Joel's Angry Young Man. Read on to learn more about Shrinking season 2's soundtrack.

Shrinking season 2 follows the story of Jimmy Laird

Shrinking season 2 focuses on the consequences, both intentional and otherwise, of the maverick methods Jimmy adopted during his therapy practice. One of the major plot points in the series starts out with a crisis faced by his patient, Grace, who was struggling with an abusive marriage.

After going to therapy for her issues, she ends season 1 by pushing her husband off a cliff and is arrested for attempted murder in Shrinking season 2. Jimmy continues to provide his services to her, and she's eventually released on account of her history as an abuse victim.

Another subplot features Jimmy's client Sean, who's a military veteran. He originally went to Jimmy's practice to deal with his anger management issues, but by season 2, he realizes that his life has become a little too enmeshed with his therapist's. As a result, he switches over to Jimmy's mentor, Paul, for counseling.

Thanks to dealing with a former client of Jimmy's, Paul ends up clashing more with his protege, and some of Jimmy's own methods start to rub off on him. Paul also spends season 2 pursuing a romantic affair with Dr. Julie Baram, who's treating him for his Parkinson's disease.

Jimmy also has other personal struggles to manage on the romantic and family front. He begins an affair with his coworker, Gaby, which quickly turns out to be unhealthy. The two end up on frostier terms after Gaby calls off the affair, as she believes he was taking advantage of her to escape from his issues.

Jimmy's mental fortitude is also tested when he encounters the drunk driver responsible for his wife's death. He brings this up to his daughter, while she's about to take a driving test, causing her to develop hang-ups about driving.

Going forward, the show looks to explore how people cope with their difficult pasts and how difficult it can be to forgive others for their past misdeeds.
