For the 2021 Golden Globes, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted from different cities due to COVID-19 and gave a memorable opening monologue. Fey's joke about the “smoking-hot first responders and essential workers” was warm and funny.

Tina Fey mentioned in the monologue, “Tonight our audience on both coasts is made up of smoking-hot first responders and essential workers.” Fey and Poehler's lighthearted but sincere gratitude connected with everyone, as people relied on essential workers to keep society running during the pandemic. This moment reflected the show's tone of humor and appreciation.

The Golden Globes return on January 6, 2025, and fans are eager to watch. New host Nikki Glaser and a great lineup of presenters promise a glamorous and surprising evening.

Due to restrictions caused by the pandemic, the 2021 Golden Globes began with Tina Fey in New York and Amy Poehler in Los Angeles. It was the first time the awards had a remote host, but their comedic chemistry made it work perfectly. Fey began by welcoming viewers with a joke about New York, “where indoor dining and outdoor muggings are back!” This set the tone for a night full of clever jokes.

During their speech, the two made fun of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which runs the awards, by pointing out the lack of diversity in it.

Fey made jokes about the members of the HFPA, joking it is made up of “90 international no-Black journalists” and a German member who is just "a sausage with a face drawn on it." There were calls for Hollywood to be more open and accepting at the time of this review, and the hosts didn't shy away from talking about these issues.

Fey’s comment about the attendees drew cheers and laughter. As a way to show their appreciation for their work throughout the pandemic, the first responders were invited to the ceremony instead of the usual group of celebrities.

The co-hosts created a contrast of the essential workers with stories about celebrities' behavior in the past years' award ceremony, ranging from Meryl Streep's carefree moments to Quentin Tarantino's behavior.

The friendship behind the magic

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have been friends for over 30 years, which shows in their great on-screen chemistry. Fans love how well they work together and time their jokes, as seen on Saturday Night Live and in movies like Mean Girls and Baby Mama.

They were able to play off of each other's energy at the 2021 Golden Globes, where their chemistry kept the audience interested even though they were at separate locations.
