The murder of the Cincinnati-based attorney, Ryan Poston, in October 2012 shocked investigators as the murder case unraveled. Ryan was shot six times by his on-and-off partner, Shayna Hubers, at his condominium in Highland Heights.

Ryan Carter Poston was born in Fort Mitchell to Lisa Carter and Jay Poston on December 30, 1982. Ryan grew up in Kentucky with his siblings Elizabeth, Katherine and Alison Carter. He studied in different institutions worldwide, including Fort Mitchell, the Philippines and Switzerland.
At Indiana University, he graduated from the International School of Geneva to pursue a triple major in history, geography, and political science. Ryan then attended the Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights to study law. Equipped with a Juris Doctor degree, Ryan began working as an attorney in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Ryan Poston (28) met Shayna Michelle Hubers on Facebook, and the two began seeing one another.
Hubers was a psychology student at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Hubers had graduated with distinction and had been pursuing a Master's degree in school counseling. Poston and Hubers shared an on-again and off-again relationship through 18 months.

On October 11, 2012, Ryan Poston informed Shayna Hubers that the two would not be seeing each other over the weekend.
According to ABC News, he had met Audrey Bolte over Facebook and had scheduled a date with the Miss Ohio USA 2012 - something Shayna was allegedly unaware of.
In a turn of events, Shayna showed up at Ryan's apartment at the Highland Heights condominium unannounced in the early hours of October 12, 2012.
Soon after, she dialed 911 to inform the responder that she had shot Ryan in self-defense, per CBS News. According to A&E’s Killer Cases, Hubers told the 911 operator:
“I’m not a murderer. I just killed him in self-defense.”
Shayna was taken in for interrogation at the police headquarters, and the authorities read her Miranda rights when she expressed her wish for a lawyer. However, she went on to talk incoherently with the police for the next two and a half hours, never denying that she had pulled the trigger.
Ryan Poston was found shot to death with six gunshot wounds to his head and face. Shayna used one of Ryan's handguns and claimed that she had been attacked first, per WCPO 9 Cincinnati.
During her interrogation, Shayna mentioned a slightly different story wherein she said that she had grabbed the handgun from the dining table to shoot Ryan.
