Loyal fans of Disney Plus have expressed their anger regarding the recent announcement that subscription prices for the streaming service will increase by almost 25%. Viewers have been informed that these changes will become effective on October 17, 2024.

Viewers believe this is part of the streaming giant's plan to increase profitability. That said, they also believe that the increased prices of the streaming platform will come with added benefits that will make the user interface and experience more favorable for the audiences.

Existing and potential Disney Plus subscribers have largely taken to X since the publication of the news to express their disappointment on the matter.

"Sorry, we’re out. We started out paying $80/year. You’re now raising it to $160/year. I know you’ve added more content, and I get that you want to boost your financials, but I’m priced out," wrote one user.

"A 25% increase in the subscription at a time when they've pretty much killed off @StarWars and are leading the MCU to the same place is brave... sorry stupid, extremely stupid!" said another user.
"I paid for $79.99 for disney plus with no ad last year. and this year, it’s set to renew at $139.99?! thanks for the heads up to add $60 more on my subscription. WOW," wrote another user.

Some have even questioned the worthiness of the streaming platform for asking for such a hefty fee from the viewers.

"How do they even justify $79/year in the first place? And now $139? What’s going on? They're mostly just milking Star Wars and the MCU, and doing it in a bad, boring way. I hope lots of people cancel, because that price is completely disconnected from the value provided ," wrote an user.
"Out of all of the platforms that could justify increasing their prices, Disney isn’t it," said another user.
"They really about to near double the price? Need stats on active subscriptions after this goes into effect. Could be the start of the death of Disney as an media entertainment company," wrote another.

Viewers expect that the streaming platform’s rising prices will lead to a substantial decrease in its fan base. In February 2024, Culture Crave reported on X that the company reportedly lost 1.3 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2024 after raising its prices.
