The first episode of season 2 explored how Joe's newest mission was rescuing a kidnapped Congresswoman from a Mexican cartel named Los Tigres. She lost a team member from a soldier group called the Grey Men while escaping in a shootout at the Mexican border. Joe was seen realizing that her future missions would take a toll on her and that she needed more backup.
This sets up for the plot and ending of Special Ops: Lioness season 2 episode 2, where Joe recruits a new Lioness: Josephina. Though Josephina is a field agent, she is shown to have had much experience in covert operations and might gain insider knowledge into the cartel, having distant familial ties to it. This makes Joe interested in her and she finally manages to track her down to recruit her into the team at the end of the episode.
What happened in Special Ops: Lioness season 2 episode 2 after Joe returned from the Mexican border?
Special Ops: Lioness season 2 episode 2 started with Joe and Kaitlyn meeting their superiors at Fort Liberty. At the meeting, they discuss the dire urgency of bringing a new Lioness into the team. The officials say that they want to decide who will end up being a part of the team but Joe refuses, arguing that it should be her call as the leader.
Overwhelmed by the fact that she might be shipped off to another dangerous mission soon, Joe goes home for a while to spend time with her family. Her oldest daughter Kate asks her about the Congresswoman whom they saw in a news report (in episode 1). Joe tries to assuage her daughter that she is only doing this dangerous work so that her country might be safe. She also shares a moment of vulnerability with her husband before leaving once more.
What was the new mission involving the mystery Lioness in Special Ops: Lioness season 2 episode 2?
The team meets to decide the specifics of the mission and who to bring in as the new Lioness. They discuss the Mexican drug cartel, finding out that it is run by a man called Alvaro. The team also figures out that Alvaro's brother Pablo is based out of the United States and that his daughter Josephina is a US military personnel.
Joe decides to take on Josephina so that she might provide some insider information on the cartel, hopefully without raising too much suspicion. However, it is revealed that Josephina is stationed in Iraq and it is up to Joe to convince and recruit her for the ops team. Joe realizes that the only way for her cover to remain intact is if Josephina leaves the military altogether.
Kaitlyn and Joe discuss the matter with Edward and the other higher-ups in the meeting, deciding that Josephina would have to be discharged from service in the military. Edward permits Joe to bring Josephina on board.
Why was Josephina reluctant to become a Lioness in Special Ops: Lioness season 2 episode 2?
Joe flies to Iraq and deals with the soldiers on the base. She then meets Josephina, who is immediately wary of her and her designs. Joe reveals that she is the most senior out of all the soldiers at the base, telling Josephine her true identity as the leader of the Lioness ops team.
Josephina does not seem pleased with these developments but goes aside into an empty office with Joe to answer her questions. She claims that she has never met Alvaro and does not know much about him or her family ties to the Mexican cartel. Joe tells her that they want to utilize Josephina's connections and training on the Lioness team.
Josephina opposes this proposal, saying that she prefers being on the ground and in the field. She even argues that she does not have training as a covert operative. Finally, Joe manages to wear Josephina down by asking her about her love for the country. Josephina relents and agrees to become a Lioness.
