Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5 ending explained- Does Joe betray the kids?

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5, titled You Have a Lot to Learn About Pirates, premiered on Disney+ on December 24, 2024. Kicking off the final four episodes of the show, the episode focuses on the group trying to find the coordinates to At Attin via SM-33 and then being led to the planet of Lanupa, where they believe the location of the planet is hidden.

A lot goes down in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5, especially the fact that Jod betrays the kids after learning the location of At Attin. The betrayal comes as he finally learns about the treasure and orders SM-33 to take the kids into custody. However, not only that, but the episode also finally reveals exactly whose ship it was that landed on At Attin.

What happened in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5?

The ship's private captain is revealed

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5 finally discloses who was the previous captain of the ship that the kids and Jod are on. SM-33 mentions that the ship once belonged to his former captain, Rennod. While the kids didn't know who Rennod was, Jod was immediately taken aback as he recognized the name instantly. Rennod was apparently one of the most infamous pirates in the galaxy.

He was after the treasure on At Attin, and when he learned that a mutiny was being formed onboard, he killed his crew and went after the treasure himself. The ship is also known as the Onyx Cinder, and it was he who had ordered SM-33 to make sure that no one gets the coordinates back to At Attin.

However, Fern still orders SM-33 to help him, and the robot tells them that the location of At Attin is hidden in Skull Ridge Mountain. He then takes them there only to arrive on a planet called Lanupa, filled with pleasure yachts, luxurious spas, and resorts.

Pirates come after Jod and the kids

While Jod and the kids are able to make their way into the spa on Lanupa, the Force user is met with an unexpected surprise. He encounters Rokkit, a pirate whom Jod has previously crossed, and he has given her a false name as well. Rokkit then reports Jod's arrival to the rest of the pirates who arrive in Lanupa to claim his bounty in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5.

At the same time, Jod and the kids try their best to get to Rennod's lair under Skull Ridge Mountain on the planet. However, they are discovered by security and the pirates. While they successfully make it down the lair, they are met with some booby traps and eventually come across a room that's stashed with Rennod's treasure.

Jod's betrayal

During the final moments of the episode, the group tries to look for a data port and then comes across a lever. When the lever is pulled, a message is played which shows Captain Rennod and reveals why he was after the treasure of At Attin. Apparently, the planet is the last place where the Old Republic Mint lies, which means it can make the person who possesses it rich beyond dreams as they can keep printing money.

The coordinates to At Attin are then revealed, however, Jod takes a moment to reflect and then invokes combat with Fern and challenges her claim as the ship's captain. With the kids scared, Fern yields immediately, and Jod becomes the ship's new captain in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5. He then orders SM-33 to take the kids as prisoners.

But Whim activates a trap door and sees the kids go down a hole to a place that's unknown. This is where the episode ends.
