NBCUniversal is working with Aaron Korsh on a new Suits spinoff, which has been titled Suits LA. Following the popularity of the long-running legal drama that focused on Harvey Specter and his college dropout mentee Mike Ross, Korsh is returning with another series that will be closely following the original.
The news came after Suits scored a breaking record on the Netflix platform when it arrived there in 2023, overtaking the record of 2022’s Wednesday and Netflix powerhouse Stranger Things.
That led to questions regarding whether the series will be making a return for more stories. In 2023, it was confirmed that Aaron Korsh and NBCUniversal were developing a new spinoff set in the world of Suits.
Suits LA has been confirmed: Is there a release date for the Suits spinoff?
Aaron Korsh’s new Suits spinoff was finally confirmed by NBC in October 2023.
The project was declared to be in the very early stages of development where the studio and the creator were still negotiating deals. But despite the confirmations, the network hasn't yet revealed a premiere date.
The confirmation came shortly after NBC announced their schedule for the Fall 2024 — Winter 2025 release and the legal drama spinoff was missing from the list.
Given that only the pilot episode has been shot so far, NBC did not schedule the show into the slot. Since filming for the pilot didn't begin till March/early April 2024, there was not much time for NBC to decide on the release window.
While it's still possible that the show could come later in the 2024-2025 season, but most likely we will have to wait another year to see the release, which could happen in the 2025-26 window.
Cast list revealed
While we don't have a release date, fans can take some consolation from the fact that along with the series order news, the first look at Stephen Amell's character, Ted Black, has been revealed.
Amell's character Ted Black has been described as a formerly powerful lawyer on the East Coast who has now moved to LA to build a legal empire specializing in criminal and entertainment law.
He will be joined by Walking Dead alum Josh McDermitt as a self-absorbed lawyer Stuart Lane, who is Black's partner at the firm Black Lane Law. Lex Scott Davis will be playing the character of a young upstart lawyer Erica Rollins.
Troy Winbush will be joining the cast to play Kevin, a former FBI Agent who now works for Black as a PI. Alice Lee will play associate attorney Leah. Bryan Greenberg has been cast as Rick Dodsen, a protege of Ted Black.
Although Suits LA has been billed as a new story in the world of Suits, there's some hope that some of the original characters and actors from Suits will be brought in for the series.
Some of the guest stars on Suits LA are John Amos, Victoria Justice and Kevin Weisman.
Is there any official plot synopsis?
It's too early for the network to reveal a plot synopsis, and all we know is that the Suits LA will be set in the same universe as the original series, but the story will unfold at an entertainment law firm in Los Angeles.
It will follow former prosecutor Ted Black who goes through a crisis in professional faith while working as a defense attorney for powerful clients in the entertainment industry.
Erica in the series is a Black woman in her thirties who works at the firm and has big dreams of landing a powerful position at the firm. She will employ her brilliant mind to climb through the ranks to fulfill her dream.
