Sunny episode 10 was released on September 4, 2024, on Apple TV+. The season finale of this Apple TV and A24 dark comedy series brings several plot and character elements to a neat end. However, Sunny episode 10 ends with a cliffhanger as well.
Suzie, Sunny, and Mixxy have been a potent team for much of the series. However, Sunny episode 10 stuns the viewers with a plot twist at the very end: Mixxy is seen to be acting against Suzie’s interests. Her sole purpose from the beginning has been to deceive Suzie, since she is most likely a mole for the yakuza.
The official synopsis of episode 10, titled The Dark Manual, reads:
“Season finale. After learning the truth, Suzie fights for what matters most.”
The last episode of the season answers some of the enduring mysteries of the story. However, certain plot elements are dealt with ambiguously, leaving room for a potential sequel.

Sunny episode 10: Mixxy is a mole
Episode 10 starts with the Japanese festival of “Setsubun”, a cultural event that is supposed to ward off evil. However, the focus soon shifts to Suzie. As shown in episode 8, Suzie finally meets Zen. Sunny, after her surreal experience in episode 9, is found near them.
As the episode progresses, Hime has Sunny locked up in a van, Tanaka tries to extract the Dark Manual out of Sunny so Hime can equip the other bots with the code and turn them into killing machines.
However, Masa’s coding acumen ensures that Tanaka cannot access the Manual embedded in Sunny. Meanwhile, Suzie, Mixxy, Hiromasa, and Zen have broken out of the basement where they were held captive, and they find their way into the festive ground.
There, Suzie spots Sunny. Here comes one of the funniest moments of Sunny episode 10; with the help of Zen, Suzie figures out the phrase that acts as a trigger and turns Sunny violent. The words are: “suck a d**k.”
Suzie storms onto the dais and shouts the words so Sunny can hear them. It works, and Sunny punches her way into safety. When she meets Suzie again, she wishes to be left alone since the Dark Manual makes her a potential threat to Suzie and Zen.
Here, Mixxy volunteers to take Sunny to one of Hiromasa’s friends in Tokyo who could get the Manual out of the bot. As the Sunny episode 10 fades out, it is shown that Tanaka is beside Mixxy, who is driving a van that is carrying Sunny. They are probably heading not to Tokyo, but to Hime.
Sunny episode 10 finally gives Hime her moment
Since her introduction to the story, Hime has tried her best to obtain the Dark Manual, since it's her one bid to climb up the hierarchy within the Yakuza. In the season finale, she comes frightfully close to accomplishing the feat. However, Masa’s genius, even when he is missing, ensures that she is always one step shy of the target.
Sunny’s internal systems cannot be broken into, since Masa has closed the route of any data transfer. However, Hime gets one victory in the episode, and it is quite a significant one.
In the closing moments of Sunny episode 10, Hime drives a sharp piece of glass into Jin, killing him. Jin was Hime’s only rival within the Yakuza. With him gone, the coast is clear for Hime for a renewed drive for the top spot.
Is Masa alive?
Even though Sunny episode 10 provides resolution to several mysteries of the story, Masa’s death is one mystery it does not address clearly. Hime, at the beginning of the episode, tells Suzie that Masa is dead. She also adds sarcastically that she is sorry.
However, the closing moments of the episode feature a voiceover of Masa, in which he says that there is still some hope, and not all is lost yet. Could it mean that he is actually alive? Season 1 ends with this cliffhanger.
As of writing, Apple has not confirmed if Sunny will be renewed for another season. Stay tuned.
