Sunny episode 4, titled Sticky, is set to be released on Apple TV+ on July 24, 2024. The official synopsis of the episode reads:

“The Yakuza make themselves known. Suzie searches for the truth about Masa’s lineage.”

The English equivalent of the Japanese word yakuza is gangster. The criminal underworld’s involvement in the mysterious disappearance of Masa is teased in episode 3 through the appearance of Hime, a blonde woman who likely knew about Masa’s work in the field of robotics.

As the synopsis makes clear, Sunny episode 4 will feature the yakuza in the plot more, while Suzie will continue her quest to learn what happened to Masa and their only son who reportedly went missing after the alleged crash of Flight 405.

Also, the upcoming episode could shed some more light on some other plot and character elements, like the history of Hime, the brewing friendship between the titular robot Sunny, Suzie and Mixxy, and the fact that Suzie is being spied on.

What to expect from Sunny episode 4?

Sunny episode 3 featured the mysterious blonde called Hime. She seems to be a member of the criminal underworld and also someone who's acquainted with Masa’s family, as she was invited to his funeral by his mother Noriko.

Hime and Suzie meet for the first time in the basement of the mysterious club Wanted, when the former forces Sunny to fight in the club’s violent robot fighting tournament. The meeting is an unpleasant one for both of them, with Suzie pushing away Hime in a way that causes the latter’s fake finger to come off.

Hime is the face of the yakuza in the show, and with the official synopsis mentioning more involvement of the yakuza in the next episode, the viewers may expect to see more of Hime.

The basement scene also reveals that Masa potentially is the creator of The Dark Manual, an enigmatic code that can weaponize robots to perform specialized tasks. This revelation shocks Suzie as Masa, her husband, has always seemed to be a gentle person. More secrets about Masa might come out in the next episode.

Episode 3 has seen Sunny, Suzie and Mixxy teaming up to solve the puzzle of The Dark Manual. The rest of the series might bank a lot on this trio’s camaraderie, as it presents a welcome emotional attachment in a series where characters often turn out to be different from who they earlier pretended to be.

Episode 3, like the first two, also shows Suzie being spied on by a mysterious man who reports her activities to some other authority. One may suspect that Hime, and by extension, the yakuza, are behind it. The next episode might reveal something more about this.

One of the central themes of Sunny has been the relationship between human beings and robots. Sunny episode 4 will continue to engage with that theme. Already, the titular homebot has become an integral part of Suzie’s life, giving it some sort of a structure as she keeps lapsing into bouts of depression. Sunny has also proved a soothing companion to Suzie at times.

Relationship between human beings is another central theme of the show. As more and more truths about Masa are revealed, it tarnishes his image in Suzie’s mind, lending a sour aftertaste to what was a very happy marriage. At the same time, these very truths push Suzie to probe more and more into Masa’s past.

Similarly, the relationship between Suzie and Noriko has been fluctuating. Both women are mourning their loss in their own ways, but each fails to comprehend the method of the other. These character dynamics may get more complex in Sunny episode 4.
