Towards the beginning of Sunny episode 6, Suzie and Mixxy visit the local police station in order to report the abduction of Sunny. The detective, however, is unwilling to register the complaint. Outside, a marketing homebot hands a manjū to Suzie.

As Suzie bites into the manjū, she finds a piece of Sunny in it. To her surprise, the homebot delivers an instruction she must follow should she want Sunny back. Accordingly, Suzie rushes to a spot where she is picked up by a van.

Sunny episode 6 shows the much-awaited moment: a showdown between Suzie and Hime. The latter wants access to Masa’s computer. When threatened with danger to Mixxy’s life, Suzie gives in and starts guessing potential passwords to Masa’s computer.

Once the correct password is entered, all of Masa’s work reaches Hime’s hands. Later that day, Mizzy finds a note directing her to go to a temple. She finds Sunny there. However, when Sunny is brought home, she collapses.

It is clear that Sunny has sustained several damages. The piece of its body embedded in the manjū given to Suzie earlier hints at that. It is also possible that Sunny’s internal parts may have been tampered with under Hime’s orders, since Sunny contains hitherto locked memories of Masa.

The confrontation between Hime and Suzie

It has already been established in Sunny that Hime is deeply invested in Masa’s work, since obtaining The Dark Manual, probably designed by Masa, will fetch her a promotion within the yakuza. The tense and violent conversation between Suzie and Hime in Sunny episode 6 implies the same.

Ad

The face-off between the two occurs after Suzie is kidnapped and brought to Hime. Hime asks her several personal questions concerning Masa, unnerving her. It is clear that Hime and Masa knew each other, and Hime took a close interest in his work.

Sunny episode 6 brings in one big revelation at this point; as Hime and Suzie are carrying on their belligerent exchange, Hime is informed that her father, the boss of the yakuza, has passed away.

Suzie, in turn, uses this personal information to rattle Hime since the power dynamics within the organization are certainly a changed one with her father gone out of the picture.

By the end of the hostile meeting between Suzie and Hime, the latter has gotten access to Masa’s computer and, by extension, his work. The viewers get a better glimpse of Masa’s involvement in potentially unethical works. This side of Masa’s character has been gradually exposed across the episodes.

What’s up with Noriko?

Sunny episode 6 begins with Noriko trying to get herself arrested. She does it by shoplifting and deliberately drawing the cashier’s attention to it. Finally, she is arrested for stealing onigiri.

Later, when Suzie goes to visit Noriko in order to bail her out, Noriko refuses to leave the prison. She says she wants to stay there since her friends are there as well, and she would like to play shogi with them inside the prison.

While Noriko’s curious conduct could be her way of dealing with the loneliness and depression that Masa’s death has brought, it could also be a practical way to ensure her own safety. After all, she knows that the yakuza have targeted their family, so staying within the prison walls might not be a bad idea after all.

Sunny episode 6 is currently streaming only on Apple TV+. The next episode will be released on August 14, 2024.
