Developed by Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing, Superman & Lois continues in the Arrowverse as Clark Kent journeys towards building a family while fighting the most vicious villains.
The CW series follows characters from DC comics, including Superman, Lois Lane, and their twin sons Jonathan and Jordan Kent. Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Erik Valdez, Alex Garfin, Wolé Parks, Inde Navarrette, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Dylan Walsh, Sofia Hasmik, Tayler Buck, and more.
Superman & Lois season 3 was first premiered on March 14, 2023, and has 13 episodes. The third season narrates the journey of the Kent family, with the twins both turning sixteen. After the defeat of Ally Allston, Superman and Lois find themselves between the gruesome crimes committed by an underworld lord, Bruno Mannheim.
The Kent family is made to tackle both domestic situations and neutralize dangers that could potentially threaten the future of humanity. Season 3 ends on a big cliffhanger, where Superman finds himself face-to-face with an evil cloned version of himself, a zombie created by Lex Luthor to seek his vengeance. Here's a recap of key points in the season 3 storyline before watching season 4.
Superman & Lois season 3 shows the Kent family's fight with mortality
From the beginning of Superman & Lois, the viewers witness Clark Kent's journey in building a family. He and Lois have two fraternal twins together named Jordan and Jonathan. As the twins step into their teenage years, Clark lets them know about his true identity.
The story in the previous seasons developed around the twins receiving powers in different ways. Jordan manifests his powers naturally, while Jonathan uses X-Kryptonite to gain superpowers. Jonathan finds it more difficult to take control of artificially induced capabilities.
Eventually, as the story progresses, the brothers learn to make peace with their gifts, and for brief moments, the viewers feel like things are finally falling into place. But their hopes are struck with a sharp hit when Lois is diagnosed with Stage-3 breast cancer.
She gets admitted to Bruno Mannheim's cancer facility in Metropolis for chemotherapy, where, ironically, Mannheim's wife Peia is also admitted. The two bond over their shared situation, while Lois also tries to expose Bruno's crimes. Peia is a meta-human, possessing sound manipulation abilities.
Bruno tries his best to find a cure for her terminal illness, which even involves using a serum made of X-Kryptonite and Superman's blood. Though it slowed the process, it couldn't cure her, and she ended up dying in Superman's arms after overusing her powers.
New villains are on the rise in Superman & Lois
Bruno Mannheim's underground lab had been a source for endless villains created and sent meant to kill Superman. Jordan, despite his initial restrictions, helps his father in nullifying threats across the city. Lois finally starts to get better, and the Kent family plans a trip to Italy. But in the last episode titled What Kills You Only Makes You Stronger, things take a sharp turn.
Things escalate when Lex Luther is released from prison and wants revenge on the Kent family. Mannheim's creation, Bizarro's blood, was sourced to give power to many of his villains. Lex goes on to scavenge Mannheim's abandoned laboratory in a subway station, discovers Bizarro, and brings it back to life into a zombified version.
Luther tortures and kills Bizarro repeatedly, setting free a zombified giant out to eliminate Superman. Superman & Lois season 3 ends with a massive showdown between Superman and Bizarro, taking the fight back to the moon. As the two accelerate toward each other, the tone reaches a peak, and the screen disappears.
