Superman & Lois season 4 episode 3, titled Always My Hero, premiered on the CW Network on October 14, 2024. Alongside that, John Henry Irons and his daughter Natalie Irons made a return in the show as well.

Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 4 episode 3 to follow

A lot happened in Superman & Lois season 4 episode 3, and the big reveal of the episode was that Superman came back to life at the end. This was thanks to General Lane injecting himself with Superman's DNA, which made the heart transfer possible, but it definitely looks like Earth's hero is back; however, this also came at the cost of Sam's life, as Doomsday killed him.

Alongside that, the episode also saw Jonathan Kent get his own powers after the grief of him losing his father came over him, while a conflict between his brother Jordan was set up too.

What happened in Superman & Lois season 4 episode 3?

Jonathan gets his powers

Superman & Lois season 4 episode 3 begins with Jonathan sad about the fact that Clark is gone now, and he blames Jordan for it as he wasn't able to get his father's heart back from Luthor successfully. This leads to a conflict between Jonathan and Jordan as Jon expresses his frustration on his brother by passing snide remarks and storms off in anger to the barn house where Clark's Kryptonian ship is.

Jordan follows him there, and Jonathan reveals that ever since he has gotten powers, he has become insufferable. After a moment of frustration, Jonathan notices something different with him and then soon realizes that he has powers now. He tests them out and realizes that he has all of Clark's powers from the get-go, which leaves Jordan a bit disappointed as his powers hadn't developed for a while.

After a talk with Sam, Lois then takes Jonathan to the DOD arena. But with Jordan already disappointed, his disappointment is further fueled when Lex Luthor reveals to him that when both he and Jonathan were in danger, Lois chose Jonathan over him, which makes him confront her.

Jordan expresses his disappointment to Lois, who tells him that Lex is just trying to tear them apart. However, he doesn't believe her and goes back home.

Sam Lane's death

With Superman now gone, Sam Lane enlists John Henry Irons and his daughter Natalie Irons to be a part of the DOD so that they can fight Doomsday if he were to attack again. Lex, on the other hand, is trying to execute his own plan as he aims to connect with his daughter again, and only Sam knows where she is.

Lex then approaches Jonathan, telling him about his mother choosing Jordan over him to torment the Kent family further, and he sends an inside man into Sam's team to know who the contact is, which leads to Sam getting shot. He also sends Doomsday over the DOD base to intimidate Sam into giving up the location of his daughter.

John and Natalie then suit up and go to fight Doomsday, but he bests them and lands in the DOD base. There, Sam tells Lex that he isn't giving up Elizabeth's location, which leads to Doomsday killing him. However, Sam's sacrifice doesn't go in vain.

How does Superman return?

Sam's death is an essential part in the revival of Superman in Superman & Lois season 4 episode 3. Earlier in the episode, Sam orders his team to bring him a vial of Superman's blood. While it's not revealed what he intends to use it for, later on in the episode he uses it on himself after he is shot by Luthor's goon. He then tells John what to do before going out to face off against Doomsday.

After Doomsday kills Sam, John takes him to the Fortress of Solitude, where he tells Laura to perform a heart transfusion on Superman as Lane's heart is pumping with his blood. While Lara reveals that there is a small chance of this actually working, she still does go ahead with it. Back at the Kent farm, Natalie reveals why Sam sacrificed himself.

She tells Lois that Sam was trying to find a heart donor for Clark, but after being shot, he knew that it had to be him. Superman & Lois season 4 episode 3 then ends with a shot of Clark's body as fans get to see him coming back to life.

With Superman & Lois season 4 episode 3 finally showcasing that Superman is alive, fans can expect to see Clark be back in Smallville when episode 4 hits next week.

Superman & Lois season 4 episode 4 is scheduled to air on the CW Network on October 21, 2024.
