Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5, titled Break the Cycle, premiered on The CW Network on October 28, 2024, and focused mostly on Lex Luthor. The episode delved deep into Lex Luthor's life before being arrested and sent away to prison and also showcased his relationship with his daughter.
Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5 also sees Lois and Clark deal with the fact that the world now knows about Superman's return, which means that Lex knows as well. So in order to make sure that he doesn't send Doomsday after Clark again, Lois seeks out Lex's daughter. This leads to Lex Luthor and his daughter, Elizabeth Luthor, reuniting after 17 years.
However, the reunion goes less than ideal as Lex can't let go of his old ways, and he says goodbye to his daughter forever. But with this being the mid-season point, there is a lot to unpack from Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5.

The search for Lex Luthor's daughter
In the previous episode, Clark returned from the dead and suited up as Superman once more, only for the world to discover that he is alive. In Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5, Lex Luthor now knows that Superman is back from the dead as well, and Lois and Clark try forming a plan as to how to stop him. Knowing that Lex still has control over Doomsday, they decide to seek out his daughter to reason with him.
As Elizabeth Luthor doesn't want to be found and previously took General Sam Lane's help to disappear, Lois goes through her father's files and locates her. She then goes to France with Jonathan's help and tells Elizabeth that her father won't stop hurting her and her family and that he just wants to reconnect with her. While Elizabeth initially doesn't want to help, she does come around.
On the other hand, Clark tries reasoning with Lex too, but the villain remains hellbent on the fact that he won't stop coming for his family. Lex then later discovers that Lois met with Elizabeth and goes to confront her, but instead is reunited with his daughter in Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5.
A less-than-ideal reunion
Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5 then sees Lex Luthor finally having a chat with his daughter after being in prison for over 17 years. While Clark and Lois hope for Elizabeth to reach through to her father, the two start looking for backup options in case this plan doesn't work and Doomsday is sent after Clark again.
During their talk, Lex Luthor discovers that Elizabeth is pregnant with a son. However, Elizabeth doesn't want anything to do with her father, as she still resents him for the person he is. She asks him to stop going after Lois Lane, but Lex continue to blame her for whatever happened. Elizabeth isn't able to get through to him and leaves. Clark, however, convinces her to go back and try making things right with him.
After a while, Elizabeth goes back to talk to Lex, and both of them share a heartfelt moment together. She gives him an ultimatum saying that if he stops his fight with Lois Lane, he can be in her life. But Lex still thinks there is a price to be paid. This leads to Elizabeth saying goodbye to Lex forever.
Lois tames Doomsday
Clark goes back to the Fortress of Solitude to find an answer to how Doomsday can be killed but comes back empty-handed in Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5. On the other hand, Lois discovers the machine that Lex originally used to control Doomsday. She then goes to an open field and calls upon the monster. Jonathan is able to hear that call as well and goes to his mother's location.
However, Lois tells Jonathan to stand back while she tries to reason with Doomsday. Lois knows that Doomsday is Bizarro and tells him that she knew he had a family too that was taken away from him and that he shouldn't do the same to her. Feeling guilt for his actions, Doomsday leaves. Lex then discovers that Doomsday has left his spot and can't be found anywhere.
Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5 then ends with Clark going to tell Lois that he needs to take them and the kids to the Fortress to keep them safe. However, Lois assures him and shares about what happened.
What can fans expect from future episodes?
With Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5 being the mid-season mark, fans can expect a lot more going into the second half of the season. Most importantly, with Doomsday not in Lex's control anymore, he will have to find ways to improvise and take the fight to Superman now. Also, with his daughter saying goodbye to him forever, he will just be more ruthless.
The trailer for season 4 did hint that Lex will be donning the Steel armor, so fans can expect him to suit up and maybe have a fight with Superman. However, with Superman himself not being at his 100%, he will still have a tough battle in front of him.
