Superman & Lois season 4 premiered its first two episodes on October 7, 2024, on The CW Network, picking up right from the events of the ending of season 3. With Lex Luthor returning and turning Bizarro into Doomsday, Superman ends up fighting him in season 3, with the fight eventually making it onto the moon. As the two are about to trade blows, the season ends, leaving fans on a cliffhanger.
Superman & Lois season 4 picks up right from that point. However, the show sees Doomsday put a beating on Superman, with the latter eventually succumbing to his wounds and dying. The new outing picks up with the death of Superman, as Doomsday delivers his heart to Lex Luthor.
This effectively sets up the rest of the season and the struggles that the Kent family is going to face, while also prepping up Lex as this final outing's grand villain. With the ending of episode 2 confirming that the superhero is dead, it looks like the Kent family has a hard time ahead of them.
What happened in the Superman & Lois season 4 premiere
Doomsday kills Superman
The first episode of Superman & Lois season 4 deals with Clark being taken to space and fighting Doomsday, while the Kent family on Earth tries finding General Lane who has been kidnapped by Lex. While Jordan is successful in saving General Lane, who was buried alive by Lex and his cronies, viewers then get to see Clark in space with Doomsday, making his final stand.
While Clark gives it his all in the fight, he ends up falling short, with the monster standing triumphant over him. Doomsday then takes Clark back to Earth, throwing his body in front of the Kents, before going back to Lex with his heart. Lois then tells Jordan to immediately take Clark to the Fortress of Solitude, in an effort to save him.
There, Lara's hologram tries saving him but says that not much can be done. She then tells Jordan that if Clark's heart can be brought back, he will be able to live, but until then, she will keep him in suspended animation to try and keep him alive. The episode ends with the Kents reuniting at the Kent farm and mourning what happened.
Lex Luthor's plan
With Lex Luthor now becoming a major player in Superman & Lois season 4, the show reveals that he has plans of his own. The premiere keeps showing flashbacks of the past, where it was revealed that Lex Luthor was put in jail, thanks to Lois Lane's reporting. This alienated him from his daughter as she ended up hating him. Driven by revenge, he plans on making the Kents' lives miserable too.
He does so by buying a small property in Smallville, through the help of a shell corporation, so that he can live there and keep an eye on Lois Lane the entire time. With his ultimate goal being to torment the Kents, it remains to be seen exactly what lengths Lex is willing to go, but so far it looks like he is hellbent on getting back his pound of flesh.
Superman's heart is destroyed
In episode 2 of Superman & Lois season 4, Jordan begins looking for Superman's heart and eventually threatens Luthor, who threatens him back. When he hears Clark's heartbeat, he rushes to the location in a shipping yard, only to find out that it is a trap laid out by Lex Luthor. There, Luthor uses Kryptonite beams to weaken Jordan, revealing that he has Jordan's father's heart with him.
In an effort to torture Jordan even further, he spares him but destroys Clark's heart in front of him, thus destroying any chance the superhero has of coming back. Jordan makes it back home and reiterates the events to Lois and Jonathan, and they then go to the Fortress of Solitude to bid their goodbye to Clark properly.
However, the Kent family finds out that Clark has made a hologram of himself, so that he can continue to guide his boys, but in the real world, they are on their own now. The episode ends with Lois crying.
What can fans expect from Superman & Lois season 4?
Given that Superman & Lois season 4 is a loose adaptation of Death of Superman, fans can, of course, expect to see Superman return. In the comics, he returns after being revived in the Fortress of Solitude, but given that he has already been turned into a hologram, it is difficult to see how that unfolds now.
However, rest assured, Tyler Hoechlin is still billed as a season regular for the final season, meaning this isn't the last you have seen the actor. On the other hand, fans can also expect to see more of what Lex Luthor is up to and how his revenge against Lois Lane will play out.
Fans can stay tuned for further updates on Superman & Lois season 4.
