The Accident, a drama series by Leonardo Padrón released on Netflix on August 21, 2024, follows the aftermath of a tragic accident that killed three children. The show explores how families cope with their grief, often by blaming and hurting others. The series ends with a tense finale that resolves most of the plot but does not deliver clear moral conclusions, as Emiliano is betrayed by friends and sentenced to prison for an accident, while Lupita gets away with murder.
The series stars Alberto Guerra, Sebastian Martínez, Erik Hayser, Macarena García, Ana Claudia Talancón, Eréndira Ibarra, and Regina Blandón in prominent roles.
David and Javier partner with Charro
The Accident started with a horrible event in which four children playing in a bouncy house, are carried away because of strong wind. While these children were playing, a few ambitious and greedy men were waiting for a call from the US that would ensure a $40 million deal to build a giant amusement park.
In the excitement of the call, Emiliano, played by Sebastián Martínez, forgot to tie the bouncy house properly which could have prevented the loss of innocent lives. Ironically, in the end, he is betrayed by Javier and David, who choose to partner with Charro, because the Americans did not want to attach Emiliano to the project as his name had already been dragged in the mud by the press.
Charro, played by a brilliant Alberto Guerra, takes charge of the project and begins excavating the site where the park is to be built. However, he wasn't able to build anything there, other than a grave.
Emiliano is sentenced to prison in the finale of The Accident
After the death of his son in the accident, Charro wanted someone to blame. When he found out that the bouncy house had not been managed properly and Moncho was the one to blame for that, he didn't hesitate to set his house on fire with his kids still inside.
When it was revealed that Emiliano was responsible for the accident, he tried to make him pay in multiple ways but did not succeed. In the finale, he bribed the police to arrest Emiliano however they can. He is charged with negligence and involuntary manslaughter.
After an intense trial, the judge finds him guilty and sentences him to two years in prison. Emiliano accepts the verdict and goes to prison, remorseful of his deeds.
Lupita frames Charro for murder in The Accident
Charro was an ill-mannered and violent man who abused anyone that got on his bad side. Not that one always needed to do anything wrong to get assaulted by him. He often abused his wife, Lupita, played by Erendira Ibarra.
After finding out that she had slept with David he brutally assaulted him. However, it did not satisfy his ego. In the finale, he calls David to the excavation site of the amusement park, shoots him in the head, and buries him.
However, justice was served to him in an unexpected manner. It was earlier shown that Lupita had covertly hired someone to kill Moncho in jail, and then killed the hitman through poisoning too. Later, it is revealed that she planted evidence in the hitman's car that would frame him for Moncho's murder.
In the last scene of The Accident, Charro meets Emiliano in prison. He tries to intimidate him by saying that he paid a lot of cash to get into the same prison as him. But Emiliano corrects him, saying that they are in different prisons. He is in the prison of remorse, while Charro is in the prison of anger.
