The new Sith Lord has revealed a key detail in The Acolyte. The lightsabers can be deactivated during combat. Eight Jedi Knights face the new Sith lord in episode 5 of The Acolyte on Khofar. However, the Sith lord is armed with more than just a lightsaber and the dark side of the Force.

The trader who assisted Mae in poisoning Master Torbin is identified as Qimir, the new Sith Lord. When Master Sol and his padawan Jecki Lon break his intimidating helmet in the middle of a battle, this unveiling occurs.

This is due to the fact that the mask has already sustained significant damage from being used to disable multiple lightsabers, proving that it is composed of an extremely uncommon Star Wars metal.

Sith Lord's armor is made of the rare Cortosis ore in The Acolyte

Different metals in the Star Wars galaxy can withstand lightsaber strikes; one of the most well-known in recent times is Mandalorian beskar. But Cortosis is special because it can deactivate lightsabers upon contact, making them temporarily inoperable. This makes it stand out from the others.

Qimir brutally headbutts and blocks Jedi lightsaber strikes with his cortosis ore helmet and gauntlet, causing the blades to short out. This is a powerful illustration of this.

According to Star Wars canon, Cortosis has a high energy absorption rate, enabling it to disperse blaster bolts and lightsaber strikes. This ability is shown whenever a lightsaber comes into contact with Qimir's gauntlet or helmet, deactivating the blade for a brief period of time.

Is Cortosis the strongest metal in Star Wars?

No, the strongest metal in the Star Wars universe is Mandalorian beskar, though Cortosis is renowned for its capacity to deactivate lightsabers upon contact. Beskar, sometimes called Mandalorian iron, is extraordinarily hard and will not break when struck directly by blaster bolts, lightsabers, or other strong weapons.

This special metal, which offers unparalleled durability and protection, is essential to Mandalorian armor. As the most powerful metal in the Star Wars galaxy against all types of attacks, beskar provides constant and long-lasting defense, unlike Cortosis, which momentarily neutralizes lightsabers.

Why the Jedi can't really counter Cortosis?

It is known that Cortosis is extremely rare in both the Legends and canonical Star Wars universe. This uniqueness explains why the Jedi battle it in The Acolyte. With a gauntlet and Cortosis helmet in hand, Qimir fights eight Jedi at once, killing seven by the program's end. Lee Jung-jae's portrayal of Jedi Master Sol and Osha, his former padawan, both make it out alive, as does Mae, Qimir's apprentice.

The episode makes reference to Cortosis' additional potent defense against Jedi attacks. It's implied that the Jedi can't read Qimir's thoughts because of his Cortosis mask. Like Magneto's helmet in Marvel Comics, this new Sith helmet blocks Professor Xavier's ability to access his thoughts. However, even with this recently discovered talent, there are still issues with Cortosis in the Star Wars canon.
