The trial of Thomas Randolph, known as The Black Widower, made headlines as he faced a second conviction for the murder of his sixth wife, Sharon Causse, and alleged hitman, Michael Miller.

Sharon's death raised suspicions, leading to the discovery that four of Randolph's previous wives had also died. Accused of plotting to kill Sharon for insurance money, Randolph was arrested in 2009. Despite going through two trials, he maintains his innocence. He has been sentenced to 60 years to life and is presently incarcerated at the Lovelock Correctional Center.

The three-part series, The Black Widower: The Six Wives of Thomas Randolph, airs on July 15, 2024, at 9 p.m. EST on Investigation Discovery. The official synopsis reads,

"Over eight years, the infamous Black Widower Thomas Randolph stands trial for the murder of his wife and her handyman; the victims' families are ready to see justice served, but a surprise ruling from the Nevada Supreme Court threatens everything."

When did Thomas Randolph stand trial for charges?

Thomas Randolph was arrested from his mother's Clearfield, Utah home for the murder of Sharon Causse and Michael Miller in January 2009, according to the Deseret News. The Clearfield police chief Greg Krusi reportedly shared,

"He answered the door. There was a little bit of a struggle. He didn't comply with the arrest, and he was Tasered as a result of that."

Nine years after his arrest, he stood trial in June 2017 and was convicted of murder and conspiracy charges the following month. A KLAS News 8 Now report stated that the prosecutors alleged that he had taken out a life insurance policy on Sharon Causse at the beginning of their relationship.

Thomas was originally sentenced to death, but the Nevada Supreme Court overturned the verdict in 2020. He claimed the jury was biased because evidence from the 1986 death of his second wife, Becky Gault, influenced their decision.

The criminal defense attorney, Stephanie Pitcher, explained to Fox News Digital,

"What was considered there was whether the evidence that had been admitted at trial, regarding the prior deaths of his prior wife, was admissible in this trial, and the district court had ruled that it was, but then… the Supreme Court stated otherwise."

Thomas Randolph's retrial took place on August 11, 2023, but he was convicted for the two murders yet again as Judge Tierra Jones handed down the sentence of 60 years to life in prison, per NBC 3 News.

A total of 24 jurors found Randolph guilty of two counts of murder with a deadly weapon and a count of conspiracy to commit murder on August 24, 2023.
