The penultimate episode of The Boys season 4, titled The Insider, premiered on Prime Video on July 11, 2024, and it saw a ton of events happen as the titular group tried to figure out Homelander's next move. The outing featured Butcher being back in charge of The Boys, while A-Train is revealed to be the leak, and Annie gets in a whole lot of trouble.

A recap of The Boys season 4 episode 7
The Boys season 4 episode 7 sees Butcher reveal to the group that he has Sameer kidnapped to create the virus and that he got Frenchie out of prison so that he could help him. MM then decides to make Butcher the leader again as he doesn't want to risk his health again. Then, Frenchie and Kimiko go to look after Sameer, while Butcher, Starlight, and Hughie investigate what Homelander is up to.
Thanks to A-Train, they learn that Homelander is planning to use an assassin to kill Bob Singer, but when they search the assassin's place, they find out they are a shapeshifter. After a brief encounter, the supe ends up escaping. At the same time, Sameer ends up cooking the virus, and when Frenchie and Kimiko go to check up on him, he injects Kimiko with the virus and escapes.
This leads Frenchie to amputate Kimiko's leg, but with him now having her amputated leg, he can engineer the virus again. Homelander, who is now fed up with The Boys, sends The Deep and Black Noir to eliminate Butcher, and a fight ensues between them with Annie and Hughie being caught in the crossfire too. However, A-Train arrives in time and protects them.
Homelander, who has now killed Cameron Coleman and Webweaver for presumably being the lead, learns about A-Train and feels betrayed. He then fires Sage too, as he thinks her plans aren't working out. Ryan then goes against his father's wishes and refuses to do the Christmas Special as he disagrees with its message.
Live, he tells everyone that he doesn't agree with the propaganda being spread by Vought, and with Butcher watching the TV, he tells Kessler that he is proud of the kid, but then faints to the ground. The episode ends with Annie waking up in an abandoned place while the shapeshifter has taken her place back home and is living with Hughie.
What to expect from The Boys season 4 finale?
With Annie now being trapped and the shapeshifter living in her place and with Hughie, fans can expect her to try and make her way out of where she is. Given that the shapeshifter plans to assassinate Bob Singer, the supe will have a clear shot at him if they are disguised as Annie.
On the other hand, fans can also expect Butcher to make a final desperate run at Homelander given that his health is at its worst right now. Maybe Kessler might fully take over him as well, which certainly won't go well as he wants to commit genocide of supes.
With Ryan also going against what Homelander wanted him to, fans can expect their relationship to further deteriorate as well. But it remains to be seen exactly how the leader of the Seven will try to cope with this as he has been trying to get closer to his son.
