The Manhattan Alien Abduction is one of Netflix's new docu-series, which premiered on October 30, 2024. It explores the captivating story of Linda Napolitano, a housewife from Manhattan, who claims she was abducted by aliens in November 1989.

The Manhattan Alien Abduction is presented by Story Films, founded in the UK by Peter Beard and David Nath. Peter Beard, along with Bruce Fletcher and Darren Kemp are the executive producers of the series. The official synopsis of the series as per Netflix is:

"A woman claims to have been abducted from her bedroom in Manhattan. This docuseries explores whether it was an elaborate hoax — or proof of alien life."

The docu-series contains narratives from Linda about her experience, along with accounts of Budd Hopkins, a researcher specializing in alien abductions. Most importantly, it tries to explore the truth of the Manhattan Alien Abduction, and answer the extremely controversial question that it poses - does this irrefutably prove the existence of alien life or is it just a convoluted lie?

The Manhattan Alien Abduction follows Linda Napolitano, a woman who claimed that she was abducted through the window of her Manhattan apartment on the 12th floor by aliens on November 30, 1989. The limited series contains accounts of how a blue light shone down and paralyzed Linda, following which she was lifted above Manhattan to an oval spaceship. She claimed to have seen three aliens, who resembled grey two-legged creatures, and performed experiments on her before sending her back to her apartment.

Interestingly, what makes this particular case of abduction more than a figment of Linda's overactive imagination is the fact that 23 people claimed to have witnessed it. This is documented in the book Witnessed: The True Story of the Brooklyn Bridge Abduction by Budd Hopkins, a renowned ufologist, in 1996.

The series uses old interviews of Hopkins, who had taken a special interest in the story after he started investigating it in February 1991. He was a firm believer in Linda's tale and in the official trailer released by Netflix, he says to the naysayers:

"Linda is simply telling the truth. It's as easy as that"

The trailer makes clear that the series follows Hopkins' investigation as he uses radical techniques like hypnosis to uncover the truth. Two security guards and the UN Secretary-General, Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, were allegedly among the witnesses and recounted their experiences to Hopkins.

This unbelievable tale has also been recounted in the AppleTV+ documentary The Alien Abduction Case of the Century: The Linda Napolitano Story in 2022. It was also featured in the podcast Somewhere in the Skies with Ryan Sprague in 2018 as Kiss the Sky: The Abduction of Linda Napolitano.

Rather than give a biased view, The Manhattan Alien Abduction also contains accounts of critics who claimed that the whole thing seemed too good to be true. However, Linda maintains her version of things and claims that it made her paranoid over time. She has recently sued Netflix in the New York Supreme Court for portraying her unappealingly and stealing Hopkins' work for the series.
