Fans of the cult-favorite HBO series have been eagerly awaiting for The Comeback season 3. Recently, Lisa Kudrow, who stars as the show's central character Valerie Cherish, hinted at the possibility.

In an interview with Newsweek on July 19 2024, Lisa Kudrow expressed her desire to revisit the role:

"Michael Patrick King and I are always talking about what would happen next. Always. And it’s been nine, 10 years now. So we’re due."

Despite this hopeful sentiment, HBO has not yet confirmed any plans for a new season. Originally debuting in 2005, The Comeback offers a satirical glimpse into the life of a fading TV star attempting to reignite her career.

Although the series was initially canceled after one season, it developed a dedicated fan base, prompting a revival in 2014.

All we know about The Comeback season 3

Lisa Kudrow’s recent comments have triggered speculation about whether there will be The Comeback season 3. She told Newsweek that she along with co-creator Michael Patrick King always talk about the future episodes too often saying always.

“We are talking about it right now,” said Lisa Kudrow to Newsweek.

However, HBO has not yet spoken out regarding the possibility of a The Comeback season 3. Fans are still hopeful because of its uniqueness and Kudrow’s engaging acting.

The show was created by Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King in 2005. It ran only for one season before being canceled but gained a large cult following, which prompted a revival in 2014.

What is The Comeback about?

The American comedy television series The Comeback is based on satirical viewpoints as well as comedy-related aspects of the entertainment industry. Michael Patrick King co-created the show along with actress Lisa Kudrow, who played the character of Valerie Cherish, a sitcom actress residing in Los Angeles.

It originally aired on HBO, with its first season premiering in 2005, while the second came out in 2014. The narrative follows Valerie as she attempts to revive her acting career by joining a new sitcom as well as having her life filmed for reality TV.

The series is notable for its innovative format. The first season showcases found footage from a fictional reality show chronicling Valerie’s comeback. While in the second season, there are several cameras capturing everything to compile footage that will be used for the pilot pitching and then become an inside documentary of what happens next.

What is the storyline of season 1 and season 2 of The Comeback?

The Comeback in season one sees Valerie Cherish attempt to rekindle her career after over a decade of obscurity.

She was formerly a star on the I’m It! sitcom but gets a role as Aunt Sassy in a new network sitcom named Room and Bored. To secure it, she agrees to make a reality TV show about her journey called The Comeback.

Nine years after season one, Valerie is trying to create her own reality television pilot for producer Andy Cohen. In recognizing the growing popularity of reality TV shows, she wants to exploit this development for her comeback.

Eventually, Val is cast as herself in an HBO series Seeing Red that fictionalizes the life of the writer-producer. And fans can expect this storyline continuing in The Comeback season 3.

While there's no confirmation on The Comeback season 3, interested fans can watch the previous two seasons on HBO.
