The Count of Monte Cristo is a 2024 French film and is mainly based on Alexandre Dumas's book. Pierre Niney plays Edmond Dantès in this Matthieu Delaporte. The film is directed by Alexandre de La Patellière.

In May 2024, the French film made its Cannes Film Festival debut. In June of the same year, it was distributed in France. Set to release on December 20, 2024, in theaters, it tells the story of Edmond Dantès.

He is a sailor wrongly imprisoned. This is mainly done by those who betrayed him. After escaping, he discovers a treasure. He seeks vengeance on his attackers. In the end, he realizes that retribution does not offer serenity. With this, he decides to move on from his past.

The Count of Monte Cristo was released on December 20, 2024, in the US theaters. The French film debuted at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This was done on May 22, 2024. Pathé published it in France one month later.

It had an estimated budget of €42.9 million. Due to this, it is the most expensive French film in 2024. In France, it sold over 9 million tickets. It grossed $100 million worldwide and received positive reviews from reviewers.

The Count of Monte Cristo is a 2024 film version of Alexandre Dumas's beloved novel. The film was mainly produced by Chapter 2 and Pathé Films and additionally, M6 Films, Fargo Films, Logical Content Ventures, and Umedia co-produced the movie.

Pierre Niney portrays Edmond Dantès in the film. This is in addition to a strong supporting cast. The cast list also includes Bastien Bouillon as Fernand de Morcerf, Anaïs Demoustier as Mercédès Herrera, as well as Anamaria Vartolomei as Haydée.

Laurent Lafitte plays Gérard de Villefort, Pierfrancesco Favino portrays Abbé Faria, and Patrick Mille plays Danglars. Vassili Schneider, Julien de Saint Jean, and Marie Narbonne play further parts.

It is all about the story of Edmond Dantès who is a young sailor who was falsely imprisoned for a crime. Following his rescue of a woman at sea in 1815, Edmond was suspected of supporting Napoleon. His opponents help to imprison him. This includes his fiancé's cousin Fernand and a shady prosecutor named Villefort.

The location of a secret treasure on the island of Monte Cristo is among the numerous lessons Edmond learns from Abbé Faria, an elderly man he encounters while incarcerated. After fourteen years, Edmond makes his getaway by posing as Faria's corpse. After discovering the riches and swimming to freedom, he becomes extraordinarily wealthy.

Edmond, now posing as The Count of Monte Cristo, goes back to France to exact revenge on his betrayer. He starts using his riches and influence to control his adversaries, such as Villefort, Danglars, and Fernand. Additionally, he gets back together with his ex-fiance, Mercédès, who is now wed to Fernand.

As Edmond's wrath develops, he reveals his opponents' terrible truths. In the end, Edmond finds that retribution has not brought him serenity. He resolves to leave his past behind. Edmond also inspires others to seek happiness and optimism.
