Airing between November 12, 2023, and January 14, 2024, Showtime's satirical black comedy psychological thriller series The Curse had one of the most bizarre endings for a show. A conclusion so open-ended that it would leave even the most skilled critics scratching their heads trying to decipher its meaning.
Much of The Curse's season finale was dedicated to Asher being suspended in the air, upside down on his ceiling, and the others trying to bring him down from there. As people went through grave measures trying to bring him down, including his pregnant wife, things only got worse.
Soon Asher was hanging by a tree in his garden as the others conducted rescue operations to bring him down. However, their efforts ended in futility as Asher ultimately flung into the sky, ventured into Space, and vanished into oblivion without a trace.

Asher got sucked into the sky in The Curse
From the beginning of The Curse, the audiences had been made well aware that what they see in the show was not as black and white as they appear. If the audiences took the occurences of the show at face value they would be running the risk of neglecting its deeper and more important implications.
The audience was familiarized with this concept yet again, in the finale episode of the show when Asher suddenly finds himself stuck to the ceiling of the "eco-friendly" house he shares with his wife Whitney. Much like Asher, Whitney is surprised too, however, both of them are clueless as to what needs to be done to bring him down.
Later on in the episode, Asher is finally able to leave the ceiling of their house but instead is now stuck in a tree in the garden after Whitney opens the doors on his request. Help arrives sometime later but through an unfortunate turn of events, Asher is unable to climb down the tree. He instead gets yanked into the sky and continues his gravity-defying journey into space where he ultimately vanishes.

Whitney gives birth to her and Asher's child in The Curse
Amidst all the chaos unfolding in front of her eyes involving Asher, Whitney goes into labour. She initially tries to help bring Asher down when he is stuck to their home's ceiling but gives up when she starts experiencing contractions. While others are trying to bring down Asher(now hanging by a tree), Whitney is in the hospital birthing their child.
When their child is finally born, there is a look of satisfaction on her face, a sense of fulfillment after having done something without her husband's assistance. When asked by the nurses if someone was there to help her, she replied in negative, and in that moment it felt like nothing else mattered to her. She even forgot about her husband whom she had last seen hanging by a tree.

The Curse is a commentary on people and their constant obsession with other's lives
The Curse skillfully tackles several current societal issues including the hyper-fixation on other people's lives. Asher and Whitney are a married couple who are working on elevating their business of eco-friendly homes via the broadcasting of their Española, New Mexico-based show Fliplanthropy on HGTV.
Although initially they are accused of gentrifying the area, a larger audience soon takes an interest in the couple, especially due to their eco-friendly ways of living. They have suddenly been awarded the star status and the people are willing to know everything about their lives.
Throughout the show, several aspects of Whitney and Asher's life are put out in the open for the people to decipher, most of whom are desirous of the lives they lead. However, they are privy to one important aspect of it, that is, all of it is doctored to create maximum effect on the viewers and only a part of is authentic. The series also makes a commentary on the performative aspect of social work and the immoralities people resort to, to make ends meet.
