However, the end of the episode unveiled that even the Jackal was not an undefeatable assassin. Due to an unforeseen interruption where a random gunman tried to shoot at UDC, the target remained protected and was ushered out of the stadium by security personnel. As a result, the Jackal was unable to complete the hit on UDC at the event.

The Jackal used Ulle Dag Charles' latest event as a trap to set up an assassination attempt in The Day of the Jackal episode 7. UDC was set to announce his latest project 'River' at a concert hall. In the previous episode, the Jackal had seduced one of the employees, Rasmus, to gain smooth entry into the hall.

Using Rasmus' identification, the Jackal scouted through the hall's canopies and vents to demarcate spots from where he might successfully shoot at UDC during the event.

On the day of the launch announcement, the Jackal entered the hall pretending to be a lover of classical music who was there to attend a concert. Then, he climbed into the vents with his gun that he disguised as his leg brace, ready to wait for UDC.

After the close shave that the federal agents had with the Jackal in Budapest, Bianca was more determined to apprehend the killer. Realizing that a team of detectives might be on his tail, Jackal collaborated with a liaison named Zina Jansone to attack Bianca and her team members to stall their pursuit of him.

However, the two emerged unscathed from the attack and also gained intelligence that the Jackal would be in Tallinn to plan an attack on Ulle Dag Charles. They even assembled a security team and arrived at the concert hall. However, the Jackal cleverly managed to evade Bianca's security sweeps and remained hidden in the vents.

What were the Jackal's flashbacks while hiding in the vents?

As the Jackal waited for UDC's event to start, he began to have flashbacks due to the claustrophobia he experienced in the small vent. The flashbacks revealed that he was a soldier in the army at one point, which is where he got his deadly shooting skills from.

The flashbacks went on to reveal how he met Nuria, whom he later married. He came across her at a bar where she worked as a waitress. He introduced himself as 'Charles' to her, and she agreed to go out with him when he asked.

Ironically, the Jackal might be thinking back to the start of his relationship but Nuria is now contemplating a separation from her husband for keeping his identity a secret from her.

The climax of the episode was marked by UDC's appearance for the launch of 'River'. Much to the Jackal's chagrin, UDC's security team anticipated an attack and insisted that he remain covered by a shield of bulletproof glass. The Jackal's only option was to wait for his target to pace around and hopefully expose his head to the vents, allowing him a clear shot.

Unfortunately, it was not the Jackal's night. An armed man tried to shoot at UDC, causing his bodyguards to swoop in and whisk him away to safety under shields.

The Jackal immediately decided to escape the concert hall too, since detectives would be looking for the person who attempted to take UDC's life. He pulled on a baseball cap and joined the frenzied crowds running out of the hall to save themselves.

As the Jackal exited the building after failing to shoot UDC, Rasmus noticed him leaving. He was confused about why the Jackal was still there in the hall since the two had shared their goodbyes much earlier. Intending to enquire about the same, Rasmus followed the Jackal and called out for him.

The Jackal realized that Rasmus could become a liability for him since he was the one who had seen him and recognized him at the scene of the crime. Hence, before leaving, Jackal decided to minimize the risk he was facing by stabbing Rasmus in the neck and leaving him dead, on the side of the road.
