The Decameron is a Netflix original created by Kathleen Jordan, released on July 25, 2024. The series is inspired by an Italian short story collection of the same name by Giovanni Boccaccio, from the 14th century. The show is a blend of medieval and dark comedy.

The Decameron begins with an invitation from Visconte Leonardo, who invites a group of mostly single nobles to countryside Villa Santa to escape the bubonic plague. Upon arrival, the guests are received by Leonardo’s chef and steward, and they soon find out Leonardo is dead. The guests have to fight for survival and save themselves from the plague outside the walls of the villa and the inner threats.

The survivors of the plague in The Decameron include Sirisco, Licisca, Filomena, Misia, Stratilia, and Jacopo, who came out safe from the Villa Santa. At the end of the series, they all embark on their individual journeys to find solace. They venture into the Italian woods, and the ending scenes show them sharing laughs and stories in a peaceful valley.

The individual journey of the survivors of The Decameron

After facing the harrowing experience during the plague in The Decameron, the survivors embarked on their journey to find peace and start a new life. Some of them lost their loved ones, and others try hard to move on in their lives for the greater good.

Sirisco

Sirisco, played by Tony Hale, was the steward of Leonardo who survived the plague. He became the leader of the group and played an important role in their survival.

His journey forward involves dedicating some time to himself, as the responsibilities of taking care of everything and everyone at the villa had weighed heavily on him.

Licisca

Licisca, played by Tanya Reynolds, helped plan the escape and is deeply connected to the group. However, she misses her life in Florence and will head back there with Filomena.

Their storylines conclude with both needing closure from Eduardo. To confirm his unfortunate death, they both decide to go to Florence.

Filomena

Filomena, played by Jessica Plummer, had gone through significant personal changes and discoveries during her time at the villa. By the end of The Decameron, she enters a romantic relationship with Misia. This relationship helps her find her true self and discover interests and choices she didn’t know she had before.

Her journey is just not about self-discovery but also about finding the answers to unresolved questions. Hence, she went with Licisca to find out the truth about Eduardo’s fate to find closure.

Misia

Misia, played by Saoirse-Monica Jackson, had a journey full of confusion about her personal and love life throughout The Decameron. By the end of the series, she is in a relationship with Filomena but might still have feelings for her ex.

Misia realizes that she has to first figure out her feelings before fully committing to Filomena. Though Misia and Filomena remain friends, Misia doesn’t join Filomena on her journey to Florence, as she has to spend some time alone, just like Sirisco, to sort out her life.

Stratilia & Jacopo

Stratilia, played by Leila Farzad, is heartbroken after the death of Tindora, with whom she shared a special bond during their time at the villa. Following his death, Stratilia is focused on the well-being of her son, Jacopo. The mother and son support each other, and Stratilia is focused on giving her son a safe life and helping him grow.
