The Decameron Season 1, the new soapy dark comedy set in 13th century Italian countryside, during the "deadliest pandemic in human history," arrives on Netflix on July 25.
In the series, which is loosely based on Giovanni Boccaccio's mid-14th century iconic story collection, a diverse ensemble cast of nobles and their servants deals with social dynamics and ways to survive the Black Death without getting bored while seeking refuge in a grand villa just outside of Florence. From taking turns entertaining each other with witty stories and debauched tales, social rules start to wear thin.
Starring Amar Chadha-Patel, Leila Farzad, Lou Gala and more, the eight-episode The Decameron series promises a mix of historical drama and comedy that explores all-too-timely themes like survival during a pandemic and power struggles within a community.
