Premiering on HBO Max on October 6, 2024, new episodes of The Franchise have been having weekly releases. The next episode of the series will be available to stream on October 27, 2024.
Episode 3 ridicules how big-budget superhero films often opt for tokenistic representation of strong and independent female characters without actually putting in much thought behind it. Further, the episode also brings to the fore certain character dynamics that will certainly affect the plot and character elements in the future.

What happens in The Franchise season 1 episode 3?
In the latest episode of the series, Pat, the studio executive of Maximum Studios, informs Anita, the new producer of Tecto: Eye Of The Storm, that fans and media outlets have been complaining about the lack of female representation in their movies. Their boss’ decision to abandon a superhero film focusing on female superheroes exclusively only intensified this complaint.
To remedy this, Pat and Anita decide to “woman the woman problem.” In other words, they decide to ignore the comic book and modify the script at the last minute to bestow more powers upon the Lilac Ghost, the only noticeable female character in Tecto: Eye Of The Storm.
This does not sit well with the lead actor who is playing the titular hero, Tecto. He and another actor throw tantrums and leave the set. Seeing that things are quickly spiraling out of her hands, Anita requests Daniel to help her. They team up, deciding that she would manage the higher-ups while he would take care of the actors.
However, the ending of episode 3 of The Franchise season 1 also shows that Maximum Studios’ last-minute leap towards women empowerment has not been received too well by the male fans on various social media platforms.
What to expect from The Franchise season 1 episode 4?
The most obvious plot element to expect from the upcoming episode is the aftermath of the revelation made at the end of the latest episode. It will be interesting to see how the studio now responds to the fact that their self-congratulatory move for a tokenistic representation of feminism has caused a backlash since it has been carelessly imposed on an unlikely character.
Further, the equation between Daniel and Anita acquires a dimension in the latest episode as their past as romantic partners is brought up. The cause of their separation is also touched upon, with Daniel making it clear that he has not been able to move on. It remains to be seen how the two interact with each other for the rest of The Franchise season 1, especially given they have just decided to help each other.
Anita has time and again mentioned that Tecto: Eye Of The Storm is a project she is not too keen on; she wants to wrap this up and then move on to do something meaningful and artistic. Thus, it would not be unreasonable to see a confrontation between her and the studio in the near future, given the latter’s tendency to constantly interrupt the filmmaking process.
