The series will be developed by Netflix in collaboration with production company Ghost Corps, Inc., which is stationed at Sony's Columbia Pictures.

Functioning as a Husban's studio, Ghost Corps, Inc., manages and handles the growth of the Ghostbusters franchise so every new chapter in the series honors the initial idea, with the more recent elements drawing in a new generation.

Elliott Kalan's role and vision for the Ghostbusters animated series

Next up, tapped as the project's writer and executive producer, is proven material of comedy and storytelling in the form of Elliott Kalan. He comes from the enviable position of head writer for the Emmy-winning talk show The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

He later went on to work as head writer for the cult classic Mystery Science Theater 3000's reboot on Netflix. A wit-creative dynamo, Kalan is expected to play a crucial role in the tone and arc setup of the new Ghostbusters animated series.

Kalan's work also ensures the series has a plethora of humor within the formula of adventure and the supernatural, true to the original franchise yet able to attract an all-new, diverse fan audience.

Freelancing for a wide range of media, including TV broadcasts and comic books, gave him the ideal experience to push out interesting tales that are capable of resonating with larger audiences.

The legacy of the Ghostbusters animated series

This will be the third animated series in the franchise Ghostbusters. The first one was The Real Ghostbusters, aired between 1986 and 1991, comprising 140 episodes. This original series was primarily on ABC and in syndication. The Real Ghostbusters had its roots in the famous 1984 movie and followed the new adventures of the team.

It is considered to be a cherished part of Ghostbusters history because of its characters, upside-down storylines, and the combination of humor with supernatural elements. Following The Real Ghostbusters, the franchise released Extreme Ghostbusters in 1997, which ran for 40 episodes in syndication.

Extreme Ghostbusters featured a new team of Ghostbusters with original member Egon Spengler in charge. This show had a very brief existence but contributed hugely to the cult following because of its darker tone and attempts to introduce 'different' characters and storylines.

With production minutes now officially underway, more news and information will come as the series nears its debut, which is currently on target to capture the spirit of the Ghostbusters universe for a whole new generation to enjoy.
