The Jinx Part 2 is the second season of the HBO documentary that covers the life of real estate heir Robert Durst, who gained notoriety after the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst in 1982.

He was also a suspect in the murder of Susan Berman and the killing of Morris Black. He was tried for the killing of Morris Black in 2003 and was acquitted after pleading self-defense.

The first season of The Jinx unearthed incriminating evidence regarding Susan Berman's murder, which resulted in Robert Durst's arrest in 2015 and eventual conviction in 2021. Robert Durst died soon after being sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Jinx Part 2 covers the aftermath of Durst's conviction and death and includes interviews with the people involved in the trial, as well as records of Durt's prison calls and the wrongful death civil suit filed by Kathleen's family.

The plaintiff of the suit is Robert Durst's estate, which is controlled by his second wife Debra Lee Charatan. The closing scene shows her deposition for the civil trial, where she's questioned about staying loyal to Durst despite Susan Berman and Morgan Black's deaths. When asked, "Was it worth it?" her response is, "I think it was."

What is The Jinx Part 2's final episode?

The Jinx Part 2's final episode is called It Takes a Village, named after the saying "It takes a village to raise a child." The implication is that Robert Durst could not have evaded justice for his crimes without the assistance and complicity of others.

The episode focuses on the wrongful death civil suit brought by Kathleen Durst's family, who believe Robert Durst murdered her. The family attorneys questioned Debra Lee Charatan, the executor of Robert's estate, on the status of his assets.

Durst's phone calls from prison hint at a scheme to divert millions of dollars in assets to a trust where they can't be legally claimed for damages. Debra, who runs her own real estate company, has been accused of appropriating the trust money for her own benefit. The matter is currently being litigated in court.

A major focus of this episode is all the people who protected and covered for Robert Durst despite the seriousness of the allegations against him. As Lisa DePaulo puts it during the episode:

All of these people who got entangled in his web.
"Do I protect Bob because he's so good to me?"
"Do I protect Bobby because I'm just a loyal person?"
"Do I protect Bobby because I have an inch of doubt that maybe he didn't do this?"
You have to say, "What price is my soul?"

Among the last people interviewed for the documentary are Susan Giordano and Nick Chavin. Both were Durst's friends, who enabled him before his arrest and conviction.

Susan admitted to doing everything he ever asked of her. When pressed on what she thought of his conviction and whether she could clearly say that Durst murdered Susan Berman, she hesitated.

"To hear yourself say it also makes it like, 'Wow, that could be really real. You know? Even though you know it."

Nick Chavin, who testified against Durst in the 2020 trial, was openly remorseful of the fact that he didn't come forward to the authorities sooner despite having his suspicions. Chavin would die of heart failure shortly after his final interview for The Jinx Part 2.

"I submitted to the situation. Though I didn't create it, but boy, it. ... I sure feel complicit."

The Jinx Part 2 establishes that Robert Durst was a man of major influence who manipulated several people into covering for him. Now, all these people must live with the consequences of their complicity.
