Johnny Lawrence is an iconic character from Cobra Kai who has captivated audiences since his appearance in the Karate Kid movies. Initially depicted as a bully to the protagonist, Daniel LaRusso, in the films, Johnny's character has evolved into a lovable and layered person in the Netflix series.

William Zabka's portrayal of Johnny has been impeccable since the first season. However, there is much debate about who the main character of Cobra Kai truly is. While some fans attribute this title to Miguel Diaz, one of the teens at the dojo, many believe that Johnny is the show's true main character.

The show's initial seasons highlighted Johnny's role, as he took on a leadership role in the dojo. Daniel was shown to be briefly envious of his old rival, seeing the success of the martial arts training. However, as the rivalry diminished, Johnny and Daniel saw each other as equals. It remains to be seen whether Cobra Kai season 6 will establish another character as the main focus.

Cobra Kai started with Johnny Lawrence as the protagonist and Daniel LaRusso as his co-protagonist. The series begins 30 years after the final faceoff in the Karate Kid films, with Johnny reopening the dojo and starting to train new students as a sensei.

This initially annoys Daniel and sparks their old rivalry again. However, by season 6, the enmity slows into a reluctant partnership as they combine their dojos to field better candidates for an international karate tournament called the Sekai Taikai.

Johnny Lawrence has been a consistent presence throughout the show, with season 1 focusing on his evolving relationship with his star pupil, Miguel. While many viewers feel that Miguel might be the protagonist, his arc feels almost complete by season 4. However, Johnny continues to play an important role as the dojo's sensei and is considered the binding force of the storylines.

On the other hand, many fans argue that the show is an ensemble, featuring several main characters at different points in time.

Viewers can expect to see a lot more of Johnny Lawrence in the final season of the series. He combines dojos with his former nemesis, Daniel LaRusso, as they train students together for a global martial arts tournament.

The season also reintroduces a Karate Kid villain: Kreese. After escaping from prison, the character starts training his own fighters for the Sekai Taikai tournament. This will surely be a challenge for Johnny and his recruits.

The official Netflix summary for the series reads:

"Bitter enemies. Warring dojos. New blood. Daniel and Johnny reignite old West Valley rivalries in this follow-up series to the 'Karate Kid' films."
