While not the revival one has anticipated, The Office franchise is getting an Australian original, which is all set to be released on October 18, 2024.
Rick Gervais and Stephan Merchant created the BBC mockumentary-style sitcom that has seen 12 iterations to date. The Australian adaptation is the 13th in the official lineup. It adds a fresh cultural twist and the same ingredients to the latest workplace comedy.
The new adaptation will be co-produced by BBC Studios Australia & New Zealand, Bunya Entertainment, and Amazon MGM Studios. Jackie van Beek and Julie De Fina will be developing the series, while also serving as executive producers alongside Kylie Washington, Sophia Zachariou, and Linda Mickso.
Jesse Griffin is revealed to be the writer for the series. Van Beek will also be the set-up director alongside Christian Van Vuuren, who will be helming the show. Follow along with the article to learn more.
The Office Australia will be released globally on October 18, 2024
Slated for an eight-episode run, the Australian version of The Office will feature Felicity Ward as the main lead, who will be playing the role of Hannah Howard. Ward’s character is a managing director of a packaging company called Finley Craddick. As revealed in the logline, the story will kick off with seemingly bad news for Ward and her colleagues.
Ward will be receiving news from the Head Office that their branch will be closed, making the employees work from home. This will leave Ward in a tight spot where she will go into survival mode to keep her “work family” together.

Channeling the eccentric and witty energy of David Brent and Michael Scott, Ward has to navigate chaos with her own unique flair, determined to face challenges head-on and keep up with the impossible targets.
Introduced 20 years ago by Gervais and Merchant, the iconic mockumentary gained worldwide fame, inspiring twelve adaptations in countries including Canada, Israel, France, and India. Given the franchise’s popularity, the expectations from the new Australian leg are on a whole other level.
