The Office Australia season 1: Release date, cast, plot, and everything you need to know

This October, Amazon Prime will release The Office Australia season 1, an Australian version of the classic franchise. The eight-episode series will premiere on Prime Video on October 18, 2024, in 240 countries except the USA. The writers and executive producers are Julie De Fina (Aftertaste) and Jackie van Beek (What We Do in the Shadows, The Breaker Upperers, Nude Tuesday).

In The Office Australia season 1, the lead character, Hannah Howard (Felicity Ward), is the managing director of Flinley Craddick, a packaging firm.

Upon receiving word from Head Office that her branch will be closing and all employees will transition to remote work, she makes unrealistic promises to avoid the transition. The Flinley Craddick staff humor her antics while navigating the challenging goals they must live up to now because of their boss's impulsivity.

The series has also gender-flipped the role of Gareth Keenan/Dwight Schrute in the Australian version, presenting Edith Poor as Lizze Moyle.

Co-producers of the show

The lead producer is Sophia Zachariou, co-managing Director of Bunya Entertainment, and the producer is Linda Micsko, known for The Letdown, Laid, and Animal Kingdom. Along with De Fina and van Beek, the executive producer is Kylie Washington, general manager and creative production director at BBC Studios ANZ. She has faith in the series, as she quotes,

“Office environments have changed so much, so we felt like it was perfect timing to investigate what the office means to us and how our work families - good or bad - affect our lives. Having our first female boss wasn’t just about a gender flip, it’s about looking at the whole workplace through the lens of a female boss. It’s certainly time!”

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant created the British version of the famous mockumentary over 20 years ago. Since then, the show's popularity has led to numerous adaptations in multiple languages worldwide.

The original show's star, Gervais, has also shown his excitement for The Office Australia season 1 and said he is looking forward to seeing how the show navigates a modern-day David Brent in the face of changing office politics.
