The Penguin finally premiered on HBO and Max on September 19, 2024, and saw the return of Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobb in the series. The show is a spinoff of The Batman that takes place a week after the events of the first film. Amidst the death of Carmine Falcone, there is a power struggle within the Gotham crime families, and Oswald wants the top price so that he can make a name for himself.
However, in The Penguin, Oswald will have to deal with the emergence of Sofia Falcone, Carmine's daughter who wants to prove herself too. Alongside that, the show also introduces the Maroni family - and it all culminates in a war that is starting to brew on the streets of Gotham.
While The Penguin is only two episodes into its eight-episode run, the show has already amassed some recognizable songs in its soundtrack. In the show, Oswald loves his music, and it is seen by the collection he has. Featuring songs from the likes of Dolly Parton, Miles Davis, and more, the show certainly packs in a diverse set of songs.

What is The Penguin about?
The Colin Farrell-starrer is a spinoff of The Batman and is a show developed by Lauren LeFranc with director Matt Reeves acting as a producer. The show focuses on Oswald Cobb as he tries to make a name for himself amidst the death of Carmine Falcone and nab the top prize within the criminal underworld of Gotham.
The official synopsis as per Max reads as:
"This thrilling crime drama follows Oswald “Oz” Cobb’s quest for control in Gotham City. With the city in peril following the seawall’s collapse, Oz (Oscar nominee Colin Farrell) seeks to fill the power vacuum left by the death of Carmine Falcone and finally give his mother Francis (Deirdre O’Connell) the life he’s always promised."
It continues:
"But first, Oz must confront his enemies, including Carmine’s children, Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) and Alberto Falcone (Michael Zegen); the Maroni family, led by their imprisoned patriarch, Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown); and Oz’s own demoralizing reputation as The Penguin."
