The second episode of The Penguin, titled Inside Man, premiered on HBO and Max on September 29, 2024, and it saw Oswald Cobb try his best to make sure that the Falcone family didn't figure out that he was the rat. The episode follows him doing the bidding for the Maroni family and coming extremely close to being caught by the Falcone family, but he saves himself just in the nick of time.

In addition, The Penguin episode 2 featured some major developments for Sofia Falcone. In the episode, fans get to see the introduction of Luca Falcone, Carmine Falcone's brother, and his arrival on the scene immediately makes Sofia feel like she is being undervalued.

However, with her and Oswald growing closer, the episode ends with the tease of a partnership where it looks like both of them are going to be working together in the future. With Sofia being undermined by the family, she will be wanting to prove herself here—and who better to do it than the Penguin himself.

What happens in The Penguin episode 2?

Sofia's hallucinations

The Penguin episode 2 begins with Sofia Falcone having a hallucination to when she is back at Arkham meeting Alberto Falcone. However, someone creeps up on him, and shoots him which brings Sofia back to reality. Viewers then get to see Oswald meeting the Maronis in prison, where he gives them a rundown of how the Drops are going to be transported soon and how his men can claim it from the Falcones.

However, when transporting the drops, everything ends up going wrong as both the Falcones and Maronis take heavy losses on their sides. Even though the drops are gone, Oswald makes it back to the Falcone estate in one piece. Sofia then questions the head of the family, Luca, why Alberto's killers haven't been brought to justice yet, and Luca then dismisses her.

When leaving, Oswald catches Sofia in the hallway and tells her that she needs to be running the Falcone business because she has the guts to do what it takes to run this business. But Sofia thinks that Oswald is just trying to butter her up and dismisses him and leaves. She also thinks that there is a rat inside the family and hires a private investigator to figure out who it is.

Alberto's funeral

The bulk of The Penguin episode 2 then takes place at Alberto's funeral. However, before going there, Oswald gets a call saying that his mother's dementia is getting worse, so he visits her. He makes sure that she is okay, and after promising her that he will make her proud, he goes to Alberto's funeral.

There Oswald plans on showing Luca proof that Johnny Vitti has been sleeping with his wife to get him out of the family, but the opportunity slips away from his hands. He then notices that Sofia is standing all alone and decides to go and talk to her. There he tries to connect with her while revealing to her how he and his mother coped with the deaths of his brothers, and he is able to soften her up to him.

At the same time, Sofia gets a call from the private investigator that she had hired saying that he found one of Maroni's guys who was shot during the drug heist, and she takes him to the basement of the church to interrogate him. However, with him being treated for being shot, he is unconscious, which makes getting information out of him difficult.

At the same time, Oswald gets to know from the Maroni family that one of their guys is in the custody of the Falcones and that he better find him quickly, otherwise his cover will be blown. Oswald then gets Victor to plant the diamonds he had stolen from Alberto to be planted in Johnny Vitti's car while he searches for the Maroni goon.

Oswald gets out safe

The finale of The Penguin episode 2 then sees Oswald find the Maroni goon and wakes him up. He orders him to tell Sofia that Vitti is the inside man working with Maroni, but then he gets a call from Victor, who tells him that he got cold feet and wasn't able to plant the diamonds in Vitti's car. To save face, Oswald then kills the Maroni goon with a knife. Eventually, the family discovers his body and locks down the funeral.

In an effort to find the rat, they assemble everyone who was there during the drug heist and start patting them down to search for a murder weapon. Finding himself in another tense situation, Oswald then begins a physical spat with Vitti and plants the weapon in the pocket of another Falcone goon who separates the two of them.

When the murder weapon is discovered in the pockets of the Falcone goon, Sofia demands that she shoot him so that she can exact revenge for his brother, but Luca robs her off this opportunity and shoots him instead. Luca then recommends that Sofia leave Gotham and go elsewhere as she isn't needed to run the business.

The Penguin episode 2 then ends with Sofia calling Oswald and letting him know that she is tired of the Falcone family undermining her and that she is ready to take from them. She then proposes an alliance with Oswald, who agrees to work with her.
