The Penguin episode 3, titled Bliss, was released on HBO and Max on October 6, 2024, and gave viewers more about who Victor Aguilar is. It opened up with the events of The Batman, where The Riddler flooded Gotham by blowing up the sea walls, and how Victor's parents were killed during the event. The episode then went back to the current day, focusing on Victor's PTSD.
Victor got his time to shine in The Penguin episode 3, and a major plot point in his story focused on his wanting to leave Oswald Cobb. He seemingly wanted to leave so he could go to California with his girlfriend. While Victor almost left Oswald, he returned to join him as he still wanted to make a name for himself.
Meanwhile, Oswald and Sofia's partnership was tested in The Penguin episode 3 as well. With the duo trying to run a new drug on the streets of Gotham, they needed to find a distributor, which led them directly to the Triads. However, with the Maroni family figuring out that the two were working together, things get complicated.
What happened in The Penguin episode 3?
Victor's backstory
The Penguin episode 3 directly went back to the third act of The Batman and opened with Victor meeting his girlfriend Graciela. The two plan to meet up on a rooftop and watch the election fireworks together. Before that, Victor had to go and deliver some car parts to his father.
This was where fans saw his family with Victor's motivations of wanting to do something more with his life being revealed. However, his father saw the world differently.
Victor then left to meet Graciela, and while they thought that the fireworks had started to go off, it was revealed to be The Riddler's bombs. With the sea walls being blown up, Gotham began flooding, and Victor's parents died in the calamity, leaving him an orphan.
Viewers were then taken to the present day with Victor in Oswald's apartment, where Sofia goes to visit them. While Oswald and Sofia were out on a job, Victor invited Graciela over.
After having a heart-to-heart conversation, Graciela told Victor that she was leaving Gotham and that he should go with her. Victor told her that he would join her, but he needed to talk to Oswald first.
The new drug
Sofia and Oswald then checked out the new drug, and it was revealed to be a new strain developed from the medication that inmates were given at Arkham. Sofia and Oswald wanted to take the lead on the drug but needed to find a distributor for it. This led them to the Triads, but they didn't think that Oswald and Sofia would be able to manage to run the operation and take over the Falcone drug business.
Oswald then played a buff and told the Triads that they had Johnny Vitti's support,. The Triads then asked the duo to get Vitti to call them and put in a good word for them. Oswald had dirt on Johnny as he is sleeping with Luca Falcone's wife, and he and Sofia blackmailed Vitti into calling the Triads and letting them know that they had his support.
Sofia and Oswald then carried out a trial run for the drug at the end of The Penguin episode 3, and Oswald made Victor the bagman as he finally trusted him.
Victor's PTSD
However, during the trial run of the drug, Victor's PTSD is triggered when he was reminded of the deaths of his family as they drowned in the flood at the end of The Penguin episode 3. Meanwhile, Oswald and Sofia try to save the drug deal with the Triad boss and get it secured. Oswald found Victor in the washroom to give him the good news but realized that Graciela had sent him a text.
When he found out that Victor wanted to leave, Oswald went off on him before asking him to go if that was what he wanted. Victor took Oswald's car to go and meet Graciela at the bus station, but couldn't go through it at the last moment. He saw her board the bus from a distance and leave for California.
Meanwhile, Sofia confronted Oswald about him taking over her operation after she was sent to Arkham, and he apologized for it. At the same time, Nadia Maroni showed up holding Oswald and Sofia at gunpoint, revealing that she was keeping track of him. Victor showed up in the nick of time and rammed the car into the Maroni goons.
Victor and Oswald then escaped and left Sofia Falcone at the end of The Penguin episode 3.
What can fans expect going forward?
With The Penguin episode 3 seeing that Sofia now knows of the fact that Oswald has been working with the Maronis, she will certainly be out for blood. Knowing that Oswald only hasn't screwed her once, but twice now, she won't appreciate it, putting a wedge between them.
Aside from that, the promo for The Penguin episode 4 also teases to dive further into Sofia's story and how she ended up in Arkham and earned the reputation of Hangman.
On Oswald's side of things, fans can expect to see him deal with the fallout of Maronis and Sofia finding out that he has been double-crossing them. With a large target now painted on his back, things are only going to get tougher for him from here on out.
Fans can check out The Penguin episode 3 as it is streaming right now on Max.
