The Penguin episode 3, Bliss, premiered on HBO and Max on October 6, 2024. The episode finally delved more into Victor's life and showcased who he was and where he came from. Alongside that, The Penguin neatly tied itself in again with the third act of The Batman, showcasing just how severe The Riddler's attack on Gotham was.

The Penguin episode 3 also maintained tension and built upon the foundations laid in the first two episodes. Performances-wise, Rhenzy Feliz's Victor Aguilar is the show's star this time, showing what he has in store and making the episode all the better.

Similarly, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti once again bring a dynamic range to Oswald and Sofia in The Penguin episode 3, which just makes this week's outing another stellar hour of television.

The Penguin episode 3 review

Rhenzy Feliz gets his time to shine

Although the first episode introduced us to Rhenzy Feliz's Victor, he took a bit of a backseat in episode 2. However, since The Penguin episode 3 was largely based on Victor, it helped Feliz show off his acting skills. In a way, the young actor stood tall next to Colin Farrell's and Cristin Milioti's talents and helped make Victor seem like a three-dimensional character with his own struggles.

One of the remarkable things about this week's outing was how it takes us back to the events of The Batman and ties it in with Victor's story. After losing his family in the flood, he wanted to leave the life of crime and ride off into the sunset with his girlfriend, but he knows he is in too deep now and can't do so.

In moments like this, Feliz gets his best work done here, making him the show's heart.

Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti continue to impress

On the other hand, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti continue their streak of providing great performances. In episode 3 of The Penguin, Oswald Cobb and Sofia Falcone come together to start their new drug business in Gotham. This leads them to blackmail Johnny Vitti and meet with the Triads to be their new distributors.

While this week's outing didn't have the same depth as last week's impressive funeral sequence, it still provided an entertaining look into Gotham's criminal underworld. Sofia and Oswald seem to share a history that the show is teasing, and the promise of getting to see it in future episodes is intriguing because of some potentially entertaining drama.

The Sofia and Oswald dynamic is even better when you take in Farrell and Milioti's performances. Farrell is the scheming mastermind playing both sides of the game, while Milioti is one moment away from snapping at everyone and everything — it just helps build tension.

The pacing is a bit chaotic

While the show delivers a great episode 3, it's not without its faults. The pacing here seems to be a bit too quick, where a lot goes down in the hour the episode runs for. The story seems to go by too quickly, without breathing room between moments.

Aside from that, The Penguin still provides another great hour of television that shouldn't be missed.

Final verdict

The Penguin episode 3 is another impressively directed and written episode that continues to showcase the brilliance of The Batman universe. With Rhenzy Feliz being a standout and Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti chewing up the scenery, this show shouldn't be missed.
