The third episode of The Penguin, titled Bliss, premiered on HBO and Max on October 6, 2024, and saw Oswald Cobb and Sofia Falcone team up to introduce a new kind of drug to the streets of Gotham. On the other hand, it also delved into Victor's backstory and how his family was killed during the flooding, done by The Riddler in the third act of The Batman.
While Oswald and Sofia are successful in getting their new drug to catch on in The Penguin episode 3, it all takes a turn for worse when the Maronis show up and hold them at gunpoint. There, Nadia Maroni reveals that she knows Oswald has been double-crossing them and working with the Falcones.
However, while Victor is able to save them in the nick of time, Oswald and he leave Sofia behind which effectively sets up some major storylines to come going forward. With The Penguin episode 4 scheduled to release on October 13, 2024, here are some major spoilers that fans can expect.
What can fans expect from The Penguin episode 4?
Sofia's backstory
The teaser for The Penguin episode 4 confirmed that fans will see Sofia's backstory in the upcoming week. In that, fans will get to see exactly why Sofia was sent to Arkham and what happened between her and Oswald in the past which led him to take over her job in the Falcone family.
Addtionally, fans can also expect to see why Sofia Falcone is known as the Hangman in The Penguin. While it's confirmed in the show that she killed seven people and is branded as a murderer with being better known as The Hangman, it's still not explained why she is called that.
In the comics, Sofia Falcone is known as the Hangman as she was involved in the murder of over seven women - all of whom were hanged to death. Thus it earned her the reputation as Hangman.
Mark Strong as Carmine Falcone
With The Penguin episode 4 set to be a flashback, fans can expect to see Mark Strong step into the shoes of Carmine Falcone. The teaser does confirm this as a voiceover of him talking to Sofia can be heard. Previously, Carmine Falcone was played by John Turturro in The Batman, but he was not able to return for the series thus Mark Strong was cast in the role.
In the flashback, fans can expect to see the relationship between Sofia and her father - and given that Carmine was never the best with his children, fans can definitely expect to see a complicated relationship between the father and daughter. It will also give more context into Carmine's past as fans were able to see him very briefly in The Batman.
Difficulties for Oswald
With Oswald's cover now blown, fans can certainly expect to see him have a much more difficult time going forward. With the Maronis breathing down his neck and him having lost Sofia's trust by not only leaving her behind but also by working with the enemy, she will certainly want to be working alone.
However, given that the new deal for the drug is already in place, perhaps Sofia might look past that and want to continue working with Oswald.
All will be revealed when The Penguin episode 4 premieres on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
