Plot of The Rig
The Rig season 1 is situated on Kinloch Bravo, an offshore oil rig that is owned by Pictor. The narrative commences with a tremor that disrupts communication with the outside world and induces a blackout on the rig.
The crew is ensconced in isolation by a dense, unnatural fog that envelops the platform. Spores are present in this fog, which induce peculiar behavioral modifications in those who are exposed.
Due to the oil rig's operations, the crew determines that these spores are derived from an ancient microbe known as "The Ancestor," which was liberated from the seabed. The Ancestor has the capacity to heal physical injuries; however, it also rejects inorganic materials in the body, frequently resulting in fatalities.
As the crew battles to comprehend the Ancestor's objective, tensions escalate. The group is further divided when Pictor's plans to decommission the rigs are disclosed. According to scientist Rose Mason, the Ancestor may be the planet's original life source, and it is currently reacting to humanity's exploitation of natural resources.
The Ancestor's intention to initiate a mass extinction event in order to restore the planet's equilibrium is indicated by the discovery of a concentric ring on the ocean floor. The crew is compelled to determine whether to combat the Ancestor or to heed its warnings regarding humanity's unsustainable practices.

What happened in the finale of The Rig season 1?
The crew of The Rig encounters the Ancestor's plan's culmination in the suspenseful season one finale. When the concentric ring beneath the ocean floor closes, it causes underwater landslides and a huge tsunami directed toward Kinloch Bravo and mainland Europe.
Helicopters from Pictor arrive to evacuate the survivors as the chaos spreads. But Baz decides to remain behind because of his strong bond with the Ancestor. By making his sacrifice, he hopes to show the Ancestor that humanity is capable of redemption and persuade him to spare the planet Earth.
Over Kinloch Bravo, the tsunami roars as Baz enters the glowing presence of the Ancestor. Rose and Magnus, along with the rest of the crew, watch helplessly from the helicopters as the waves engulf their home and friends.
The survivors, led by David Coake, are taken to an enigmatic location rather than returning to safety. Season 2 begins with the finale, which leaves viewers wondering about the Ancestor's motivations and the crew's fate.
