Episodes 1 and 2 of The Rings of Power season 2 set the tone for the rest of the season, while episode 3 jumps into several key character and plot elements and takes them forward. The synopsis of the episode on IMDb reads:

“Isildur and an old friend reunite. Arondir grapples with change. Míriel faces rising opposition. Annatar counsels Celebrimbor.”

The Rings of Power season 2 premiered with its first 3 episodes on August 29, 2024, on Amazon Prime Video. The first two episodes show Sauron back at his deceptive best, trying everything in his power to lay his hands on the powerful rings. In episode 3, he only gets closer to his goal.

However, The Rings of Power season 2 episode 3 also shifts the focus to characters last seen in season 1. This fast-paced, plot-propelling episode mentions several aspects of Middle-Earth’s life and politics. As the episode ends, Sauron, in the guise of Annatar, encourages Celebrimbor to make more rings.

The Rings of Power season 2 episode 3: More rings are made

Continuing from the events of episode 2, Disa and Prince Durin visit Celebrimbor. Celebrimbor offers Durin the idea that he would make some rings for the dwarves in exchange for Mithril. At this point, Annatar (or Sauron in the disguise of Annatar) tries to manipulate the prince into agreeing.

However, Prince Durin does not take well to Annatar’s manipulations and asks Celebrimbor for some time. The prince broaches the offer to his father, King Durin.

Upon getting the Mithril, Celebrimbor initiates the procedure for making more rings. As The Rings of Power season 2 episode 3 ends, Sauron, in the form of Annatar, watches on as Celebrimbor works on the rings. Sauron is getting closer to his goal at an alarming pace.

The Rings of Power season 2 episode 3: Isildur is alive

Season 1 created the impression that Isildur might be dead. Episodes 1 and 2 of season 2 do not show him either. However, episode 3 begins by showing that he is, in fact, alive.

The Rings of Power season 2 episode 3 shows that Isildur has been trapped inside a spider’s den all this while. His horse, Berek, breaks into the den in search of him, and together, they evade the arachnid dangers and flee the place.

On the way out, Isildur makes a mysterious friend and reunites with Arondir, and the three of them set out for Pelargir. Isildur hopes that his father and the Numenoreans are there in Pelargir.

However, things have changed since the events portrayed in season 1. Once the trio reaches Pelargir, it is revealed that Bronwyn, Theo’s mother, is dead. By the end of the episode, Theo, too, is faced with grave danger.

The Rings of Power season 2 episode 3 brings political updates

Following the events of season 1, Elendil and the Numenoreans are seen mourning the death of their king, Palantir. This is the first time Palantir is brought up in The Rings of Power season 2.

Meanwhile, political machinations are afoot in the court as Miriel faces hostilities from the subjects. She is blamed for taking the soldiers to a difficult battle. One of the mothers of a dead soldier slaps Miriel, who takes it placidly.

Miriel’s fall in the public option enables Pharozan to rise in the court. Pharozan exploits the situation to swing the royal power in his favor. Towards the end of the episode, a huge eagle mysteriously arrives at the court, bestowing its blessings on Pharozan, who is immediately deemed the new ruler by the people.

The first 3 episodes of season 2 of The Rings of Power are streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
